Overview:
The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership provides meaningful co-curricular opportunities for students to engage in activities that cultivate involvement, leadership development, and self-exploration. These experiences and programs build community and connection, facilitate transition and belonging, and promote transformational learning.
As the leader of the Student Engagement and Leadership team, the director is responsible for the overall management of the office as well as for student transition and leadership development programs. The director also chairs the campus-wide Commencement Committee.
Job Responsibilities:
Departmental Leadership (40%)
- Supervise the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership
- Provide leadership and direction for departmental initiatives that support the College's mission, learning outcomes, and the Fisher Creed
- Establish and assess learning outcomes for the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership
- Achieve strategic plan initiatives in the areas of student engagement, leadership, and activities
- Manage budgets for the department, including commencement
- Negotiate and sign contracts on behalf of the department and student organizations
- Produce and maintain content for the department's web pages
Leadership Development and Transitional Programs (25%)
- Develop and implement a comprehensive leadership development program
- Provide relevant leadership trainings throughout the academic year
- Create, support, and assess transitional programs including:
- New Student Orientation (first year and transfer)
- Plan content and logistics for a three-day Orientation program
- Collaborate with Residential Life for Move-In Day
- Train Orientation team members
- Commencement
- Serve as the chair of the Commencement Committee
- Lead team of colleagues from across campus on planning, logistics, operations, and day of event management
- Partner with the President's Office, Provost's Office, and the Office of Marketing and Communications to execute event
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Center for Career and Academic Planning (onboarding students) and Alumni Affairs (transition to alumni)
- Gather feedback and compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess the achievement of program goals and effectiveness
Student Government Association (25%)
- Advise Student Government Association
- Attend weekly Senate and Executive Board meetings
- Meet weekly with the SGA President
- In collaboration with the SGA Finance committee, create the annual budget from student fees funds to SGA and recognized clubs and organizations
- Advise the SGA Elections Committee and oversee the fall and spring election processes
Core Responsibilities (10%)
- Serve as a point of contact for students and their families
- Be able to address questions about planning, budgeting, logistics, and adherence with all departmental policies
- Serve as a campus resource, promote understanding of and engage campus in conversations related to engagement, leadership, and belonging
- Assist team with program planning, logistics, and staffing for departmental and divisional events and initiatives, such as New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Commencement
- Attend departmental and division meetings
- Meet weekly with direct reports
- Attend weekly individual meetings with supervisor
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Education / Experience:
Required:
- Master's Degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field
- At least 5 years of experience working in Higher Education with a demonstrated focus on student engagement, activities, and leadership
Preferred:
- Experience administrating leadership programs. Prior experience in new student programs.

- Established pattern of high attention to detail
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with student activities and leadership development
- Multicultural competence and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body
- Effective human relations skills and a thorough understanding of student development
- Strong desire to build relationships with students, colleagues, and college partners
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to engage one-on-one and in public forums
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated history of working with integrity and sound judgment, as well as the ability to make difficult decisions
Supervision of Employees:
- Assistant Director(s)
- Shared supervision of Administrative Assistant
- Paraprofessional staff including Graduate Student Interns and work-study students
Work Hours:
35 hrs/wk for 12 months
