Summary:
The Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) of Washington & Jefferson College, a unit within the Division of Student Life, is pleased to announce a newly created position: Campus Mental Health Care Coordinator. This position is a full-time, 11-month appointment with salary and benefits. Salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Working as a member of a small, caring, and supportive clinical team, this position collaborates across campus with students, faculty and staff to promote individual and campus-wide well-being, and to optimize connection with on-campus and community resources students need to thrive and develop.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Wellness Promotions Coordinator (65% of position)
- In collaboration with Center staff, Student Life staff, and W&J students, develops, schedules, and assists in presenting outreach and prevention programming regarding student well-being.
- As part of the SHCS professional staff, assists in training of student staff involved in health and mental health promotions initiatives (Prez2Prez peer counselors, student leaders, undergraduate practicum students).
- Under the supervision of the Director, assists in planning, delivery, and expansion of suicide prevention programs on campus.
- Collaborates in orientation training for RAs, Student Orientation Mentors (LINKS), and other student leaders on campus as part of the Student Health & Counseling Team.
- Provides ongoing health and mental health workshops on campus.
- Coordinates liaisons between Student Counseling Services and campus constituents, including Faculty (especially First Year Seminar (FYS) faculty), Student Life, Academic Affairs and Student Success Consultants, CARE Team, and Student athletics/coaches.
- Supervises student social media coordinator efforts, and collaborates with the Student Life representative for Communications on outreach and prevention programming.
- Meets with student groups focused on mental health, health, student government, and cultural groups on a regular basis each semester.
Case Management Coordinator (25% of position)
- Maintains and updates contact information for referrals to on-campus and local community resources, including contracted virtual services and acts as the SHCS and campus expert on mental health resources in the community.
- Develops and maintains familiarity with culturally-responsive resources to equitably serve W&J students who hold marginalized identities.
- Provides referral and follow-up assistance for SHCS for students in crisis or using local emergency services, and maintains ongoing supportive contacts until crisis is resolved.
- Assists the Chair of the interdisciplinary campus-wide CARE Team in case management for high-risk or high-need students to assure connection of students with on-campus supports.
- Collaborates with virtual care case managers in identifying student support options, and follow up with students at high-risk for academic or safety concerns.
- Communicates with partners, including families, staff/faculty, virtual and online service, counseling, health, and student success colleagues about current resource availability and process for accessing these supports.
- Keeps current familiarity with Washington County and PA procedures for mental health emergency policies and procedures, and assists Dean of Students in follow-up procedures.
College Mental Health Counseling (10% of position)
- Dependent on training and interest, carry a small, select caseload of clients and assist with crisis counseling during regular business hours.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BSW) with minimum 3-5 years related outreach and case management or mental health referral experience required
- Should have prior experience in planning, implementing, and delivering health promotion initiatives
- Sound understanding of college students’ development issues, health needs, and interests
- Must possess strong writing, group facilitation, public speaking and communication skills
- Appropriate professional judgment and boundaries required
- Experience with and enthusiasm for work with traditional-aged college students in a liberal arts setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MA, MS, MSW, MFT) in counseling, clinical psychology, marriage and family, social work, health promotions or other closely related mental health profession from an accredited program, with a minimum of one year’s experience in mental health outreach or counseling preferred
- Experience with college mental health, higher education, or small liberal arts campus is a plus
- Experience with emergency mental health services an advantage
