Under the guidance of the Associate Director, Training and Prevention, the Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, development, implementation and evaluation of sexual, gender-based and intimate partner violence; sexual and street harassment primary prevention training and educational activities.The Prevention Coordinator will participate in the development of strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for violence prevention programs and services for the department.Collaborates with departmental colleagues to plan, implement and evaluate theory- and evidence-informed prevention strategies.In partnership with the other Prevention Coordinator, manage day-to-day operations of the Sexual Violence Response peer educator volunteer programs (Consent Educators and Men???s Peer Education).
Participate in the development of strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for prevention programs and services for Sexual Violence Response (SVR). Assist the Director and the Associate Director, Training and Prevention in developing objectives and activities based on departmental goals, including both short and long-range education and outreach plans.Plan, implement, and evaluate theory and evidence-informed prevention strategies.Oversee office-related aspects of outreach efforts and prevention programs for SVR, including maintaining records and evaluation-related data entry.
In collaboration with SVR staff, campus colleagues and community partners, coordinate and develop community-based primary prevention programming directed at the prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence.
Work in partnership with the Training and Prevention team in recruitment, selection, orientation, training, supervision, retention and development of new and existing volunteers and student-staff (Consent Educators, Men???s Peer Educators, Interns, etc.).Manage day-to-day operations of the Sexual Violence Response peer educator volunteer programs including facilities, supplies, and equipment.Manage volunteer records; write memos, proposals, reports, papers, and presentation materials.Prepare administrative reports documenting peer education prevention efforts.Research best practice models of sexual violence prevention strategies with college-aged populations.
In conjunction with the Training and Prevention team, coordinate the planning, curriculum, implementation, logistics, and evaluation of the New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) for SVR. Collaborate with key stakeholders (including Columbia Health colleagues, all undergraduate and graduate colleges, Student Affairs, community-based programs, etc.
In partnership with the Training and Prevention team, manage and coordinate student-driven institution-wide events or educational programs (e.g., Sexual assault Awareness Month, Relationship Violence Awareness Month, NO More, etc.).Provide technical support or training to student organizations that participate in the planning of these activities.
Participate in university and community committees and task forces as needed.Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to violence prevention for students.
Maintain and develop a network of contacts and actively seek out and participate in professional development activities to keep current on best practices, and research literature pertinent to the field.
Perform other duties as assigned.Evening and weekend hours frequently required.
Bachelor???s degree or equivalent in experience and three years??? experience required
Experience in sexual violence education, prevention and risk strategies, health education, counseling or related field.
Prior experience developing and implementing violence prevention and education programs targeting young adults, and engaging men as bystanders and allies.
Experience working with survivors.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative constituencies.
Must demonstrate excellent written and communication skills including one-on-one sessions; small and large group presentations, workshops, and trainings.
Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks.
Proven ability to work in multi-racial environment, and commitment to social justice practice.
Master???s or advanced degree preferred.
Experience working in a college/university setting.
Education or experience which demonstrates quantitative and qualitative research skills such as research design, survey development, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation.
Experience applying issues of diversity and social justice to a prevention practice.
