College Description:
The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning is home to almost 800 students, 100 visiting and full-time faculty dedicated to the study of the art and science of the built environment, and about 60 staff members. A small and vital college in one of the nation's foremost research universities, Cornell AAP has educated many of the most influential theorists and practitioners in the country. We are committed to the belief that architecture, art, and planning are simultaneously intellectual and material practices, and that leadership in cultural production demands both expertise in a specific discipline and wide knowledge in the liberal arts.
Cornell's Ithaca campus is the physical and academic center for Cornell AAP, but given the global nature of our interests, the college has extended its reach to include permanent programs in the historic center of Rome and in what was traditionally known as lower Manhattan's financial district area in New York City. The departments offer additional extensive opportunities for international study across the globe. In Ithaca, the college spans five buildings, including Milstein Hall, historic Sibley Hall, an 8,000-square-foot digital and analog shop facility and the Fine Arts Library in Rand Hall, Tjaden Hall, and the landmarked Foundry building.
Office Overview:
In a period of innovation and expansion of AAP's academic offerings, the newly-created Office of Enrollment will provide strategic focus and superior quality services in the promotion of the college's academic opportunities; identification, recruitment, and admission of the best students; and the enrollment and degree-progress support essential to an excellent academic experience. The Office of Enrollment will functionally and physically be connected to and in collaboration with the Office of Student Services in order to provide exceptional and seamless support for AAP's students and faculty.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Education in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP), the Senior Director of Enrollment works with college and department leadership to develop and implement overall strategic direction of the newly created Office of Enrollment including the functional areas of undergraduate and graduate admissions, registrar, and global study. The Senior Director oversees the implementation of strategic and tactical plans to identify, recruit, select, yield, enroll, and retain a highly-qualified diverse student body.
The Senior Director is a member of the college leadership team who works in close partnership with the Assistant Dean for Education, college and academic leadership, Senior Director of Student Services, and academic departments to establish and achieve unit goals and advance college and university priorities. The Senior Director represents AAP to interested constituents and is the college's primary point of contact for the University Undergraduate Admissions Office, Office of Financial Aid, Bursar, and the Graduate School on matters related to enrollment policy and strategy. The Senior Director supervises a team of enrollment professionals.
Hybrid possibility:
While this position will primarily be performed in-person at AAP's Ithaca campus, there will also be the opportunity for a portion of each work week to be performed remotely, depending on the needs of the function and the cycles of the academic year.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree plus minimum 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory experience including proven ability to successfully lead a team of professional enrollment staff; build and maintain a collaborative and effective work environment.
- Sophisticated understanding of enrollment functions (enrollment management, undergraduate and graduate admissions, registrar)
- Direct experience with prospect management, communication techniques and data analysis to support decisions.
- Demonstrated track record of directing recruitment programs that resulted in both quality and quantity of applicants and enrollments.
- Financially astute and able to manage a budget for enrollment functions.
- Sophisticated interpersonal skills and demonstrated track record of building and sustaining relationships with senior leadership, faculty, and staff.
- Deep and dedicated commitment to diversity, inclusion and student wellbeing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading through change
- Prior exposure to the creative disciplines of architecture, art, and/or planning
