The Office of Undergraduate Biology (OUB) provides comprehensive, high-quality academic, career, and research advising services to prospective students, current undergraduates, alumni, and faculty. Biological sciences is a cross-college major with nearly equal numbers of students in CALS and the College of Arts & Sciences. The primary mission of the OUB is to serve the diverse needs of these students while ensuring that they successfully navigate the biological sciences major and achieve their academic and career aspirations. The OUB is staffed with five advising professionals and two administrative staff who help students plan for and reach their academic and career goals.
What you will do:
The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Director of Advising and Operations and works with OUB staff and faculty to provide academic advising for course, co-curricular, and extra-curricular decisions for undergraduate biological sciences majors (~1300), with an emphasis on the coordination of the first year advising program. This position provides academic advising services to current and prospective biological sciences majors regarding undergraduate research, major requirements, study abroad, pre-health, and pre-grad advising, college and University policies, and personal issues that impede academic success. Collaborate with the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) student services staff and University Academic and Student Affairs professionals to assess, design, develop and implement programs and services to support the holistic development and academic success of all undergraduate biological sciences students. The position requires the candidate to be accessible through weekly office hours and individual appointments. It requires attendance at OUB sponsored events such as orientation, alumni events, and commencement.
Evening and weekend hours may be required during peak times.
This position is full-time and is located in Ithaca, New York.

Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in higher education academic or career advising or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as essential job functions require.
Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.
If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:
Bachelor's degree in the physical or life sciences and /or master's degree in college student personnel, education, counseling, psychology, social work, human services, student development, or other relevant area preferred.
3+ years of advising experience with high achieving and/or STEM students preferred.
Knowledge of student development theory and the social-emotional issues of young adults preferred.
Experience with leading peer and/or faculty advising programs and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds desirable.
Familiarity with student information systems, electronic management of sensitive information and using technology in academic advising helpful.
Solid understanding of Peoplesoft and other student service platforms like FileMaker and Salesforce.

Salary is based upon experience/qualifications and is within the following range: $62,000 to $67,000.
This position is located in Ithaca, New York and will require a mostly in person work schedule.
