The Swain School Campus of Moravian Academy seeks a private instructor for brass and woodwind instruments. This part-time employee will be responsible for teaching lessons to students at the Swain campus who sign up for lessons through our private lesson program. Lessons may occur before, during, or after school hours. The school seeks dynamic and innovative music experts who have a firm grasp of instrumental pedagogy. Candidates must embrace and understand the unique developmental stages of school-age students.
Teachers at Swain are dedicated to contributing to a vibrant community that inspires students to achieve academic excellence, develop a strong sense of character, and act responsibly in a changing world. Swain lesson instructors are experts in their field, work collaboratively within disciplines as needed, and are actively involved in student development and performance planning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach 1:1 private lessons for brass and woodwind instruments to school-age students;
- Design innovative instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners’ academic, social
and emotional growth;
- Assess and report with frequency on students’ progress and performance to students’ families;
- Develop and nurture positive relationships with students, fellow faculty members, and families;
- Conduct a well-managed, mutually respectful lesson environment;
- Partner with other music teachers and instructors to promote student performances, plan
collaborative pieces, and develop programs;
- Engage in continued professional development.
Requirements:
- Experience teaching lessons or groups of school-age students;
- Experience playing and teaching brass and woodwind instruments;
- Training in research-based best practices and current teaching methods;
- A passion for teaching and children;
- Experience applying Responsive Classroom or other similar environment-building strategies
methods a plus;
- Experience with creating dynamic lesson structures to both support and challenge students in reading and making music;
Education
Bachelor or Graduate-level degree in Music or another related field

Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a PK through 12th grade coeducational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school in the United States.
