Job DescriptionAssistant Director
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Services, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Assistant Director administers the KILN program which serves approximately 60 students and 30 faculty mentors who are selected to participate in the program and helps manages the program budget with assistance from the Fiscal/Administrative Specialist. The KILN program is central to the mission of the Connell School of Nursing, which aims to prepare leaders for a diverse nursing workforce that will address social justice issues by reducing health disparities in our increasingly multicultural society.
Additionally, student services (programming and student support) are provided to both undergraduate and graduate populations (approximately 700).
The Keys to Inclusive Leadership in Nursing Program (hereafter referred to as KILN) provides resources for nursing students from underrepresented and underresourced backgrounds that will ensure their success in school, help them to maximize their leadership potential and nurture their ability to create positive social change. The Assistant Director administers all aspects of this multifaceted program to ensure that each program participant receives individualized support and guidance. The Assistant Director provides guidance to students, faculty and peer mentors, and supervision of graduate assistant and student leaders. S/he collaborates with various departments across Boston College and in the local healthcare community to execute the mission of the KILN program. The Assistant Director oversees the distribution of resources to students to ensure it aligns with the purposes of the program and funders, and maintains confidentiality, dignity, and respect in delicate interactions with students. The position is also responsible for providing student services support and programming to all undergraduate and graduate students in the School.
Additionally, the Assistant Director routinely handles a wide variety of student problems and requests and must be able to address or triage these as appropriate. Students will be from under-represented and under-resourced backgrounds and will require cultural sensitivity, assurance of confidentiality and perhaps remedial skill-building.
They must be able to work independently and make decisions on a daily basis that address the essential functions of the position and further the goals of the KILN program and the mission of the School. Conduct independent assessments of student needs/issues and develops creative solutions.
They assist the Assistant Dean for Student Services/Diversity and Inclusion with school-wide student programming and event support including annual student retreats, orientation programming, and other large-scale programs and university events.
He/she serves as a key contact for students and handle student issues and creates and disseminates the CSON Bimonthly newsletter to share important resources, opportunities, and announcements with CSON community. They manage the Microbiology Summer Tuition Funding application process including tracking student academic performance.
They collaborate with the Assistant Dean to launch a pilot summer bridge program geared toward incoming students from underserved communities and complete special projects as directed.
This position trains and supervises graduate assistant; supervises student tutors and mentors and coordinates any additional training required.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $53,950 to $67,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
RequirementsBachelor's degree in education administration orrelated field required; Master's degree in higher education or counseling preferred.
Threeto five years of experience in administrative positions of increasing levels ofresponsibility in higher education, preferably in a school of nursing. Knowledgeof critical issues related to belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion workin higher education.
Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills; experience with budget management;well-organized and detail-oriented; high-degree of flexibility to handlechanging priorities; able to work independently and as a member of a team; ableto communicate fluently in English both orally and in writing; proficient withMS Office and familiar with e-mail and the internet; previous organizational/leadershipexperience preferred.
