Schedule: M-F, flex some hours for evening and occasional Saturday hours that reflect when the center is open for students.
POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Director for Tutoring provides leadership for tutoring services and supports the supervision and assessment needs of tutoring at the college. This position ensures quality delivery of tutoring services to a diverse student population, fosters a team environment, and manages staff and students and college-wide. Will work closely with the Columbus State Retention Support Services Senior Director, the Office of Holistic Student Experience, all Academic Departments (Chairs and Tutoring Coordinators), College Credit Plus, college business offices, and external vendors to organize online and in-person professional and peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction across the college. Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and promoting the tutoring infrastructure at Columbus State along with coordinating the operation of the Tutoring Center on the Columbus Campus. Will develop and grow stakeholder partnerships toward positive outcomes for students and be dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable experience for students working through academic difficulties that impact their success.
Tutoring Programs Leadership Manages and operates tutoring services including college-wide (College Credit Plus high schools included) programming, providing leadership and responsibility of day-to-day operations, including Columbus and Delaware Campus tutoring centers, tutoring at the Regional Learning Centers, online tutoring, and peer-led tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. Create and or update policy, processes, marketing, schedules, communication, data collection, and reporting to manage the effective delivery of tutoring services to all Columbus State students; ensure tutors (professional and peer), specialist, and Supplemental Instruction leaders are informed and educated on best practices, technology, and college resources; and uphold equitable, and ethical processes and policy related to providing academic support services.
Leads the Tutoring Advisory Committee; works with campus departments for the purposes of tutor hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation; helps to coordinate the annual Student Success Summit, a cross-departmental event created to provide training and updated information regarding college processes, initiatives, and new technology related to student success strategies at Columbus State. Develops and provides tutor training and presentations to students, staff, and faculty; ensure accuracy of printed materials; create and edit forms, brochures, and information packets for marketing of services; review and provide updates for the website and engage the area in social media outreach.
Serves as a campus resource person for tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI); coordinate student referral processes including meeting with students in-person and through correspondence and following up with instructors; document and use data to establish best practices to design tutoring models. Researches and makes recommendations to apply best practices from other institutions; works with Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Tutoring Advisory Committee, and Senior Director of Retention Support Services to gather data to assess the impact of tutoring on increased persistence, success, and graduation, and assesses effective tutoring schedules college-wide; and maintains confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.
Operational Leadership Supervises assigned areas of responsibility and staff by recruiting and hiring, assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth opportunities. Provides leadership and direction to the Tutoring Advisory Committee, and tutoring staff including tutoring center staff, Peer Tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders. Coordinates Service delivery with Delaware campus, Regional Learning Centers, and College Credit Plus high schools including implementation of shared programming. Coordinates campus communications of tutoring services.
Conducts tutor programming evaluations, provides ongoing feedback and coaching, and effectively recommends scheduling, staffing, and Columbus State career pathways for professional tutors along with other personnel actions. Interprets, explains, carries out, and enforces the College's policies. Facilitates college relationships and coordinates academic support initiatives with internal and external partners.
Business Process Management Actively participates in the delivery of a college-wide academic support strategy that supports the strategic goals of the College. Stays current on accreditation requirements and state and federal compliance issues related to tutoring; serving as a resource to students, staff, and faculty. Oversees and manages external tutoring resources.
Provides consultative services to academic departments, non-academic departments, and external community partners on tutoring services, tools, and strategies to support student success. Evaluates and assess the effectiveness of services.

Administration & Fiscal Management Assists with monitoring and ensuring compliance with the unit's budget process. Maintains information and assessment tools deemed necessary by the College. Assists in the researching and drafting of grants to help fund department initiatives. Collaborates with IT and other departments, as necessary, to assure the proper maintenance, viability, and functionality of technologies needed to administer, report, and monitor tutoring services. Collects data and assists in preparing reports for senior leadership when needed. Keeps accurate records. Completes and maintains required documentation including programming statistics, performance, and project status reports.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Attends all required department meetings and trainings. Role requires some travel to and Delaware Campus, Regional Learning Centers, and participating high schools. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal and internal regulations, and procedures. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.

Bachelor's Degree in Education or a closely related field, with at least five years' experience coordinating academic success strategies with undergraduates in an academic setting. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Columbus State Community College has been meeting the diverse educational needs of the Central Ohio community for more than 50 years.
