Eastside Catholic is seeking an energetic and motivated college counselor to join our Student Services team. At EC, two high school college counselors support the upper school community (grades 9-12) with college advising and application support. The college counselors also oversee all college and career workshops and support for the entire high school community and hold individual meetings with juniors and seniors. Work is performed with a collaborative team led by the director of student services. Qualified applicants should have a background in school counseling, knowledge about supporting students in the college application process or a willingness to learn.
Support the college application process for students using departmental scope and sequence.
Promote “best fit” philosophy and support all post high-school plans may include a GAP year, fifth year, community college, trade school, four-year college or university.
Meet individually with seniors in late August through December to support the college application process, including hosting several summer application workshops.
Write informative letters of recommendation for seniors based on notes from student meetings, student and parent surveys and discussions with coaches, teachers and other school connections.
Support school-related aspects of the college admissions process, including submitting transcripts, letters of recommendation and school documents in a timely and thorough manner.
Meet individually with juniors and their parents each spring to discuss academic planning and all post-high school plans, including demoing College Kickstart and Naviance.
Present college-related topics throughout the year to students and parents in grades 9-12, including one fall meeting for seniors, two college meetings for juniors (fall/spring) and one for freshman/sophomores.
Partner with outside organizations (ARROW, CTCL, Compass Prep, Revolution Prep, HBCUs, etc.) to provide robust college and career programming offerings.
Create and manage the annual College Planning Day in January. Keynote and breakout speakers should provide helpful academic and college content for grades 6-12.
Visit colleges to better represent Eastside Catholic, learn about admission priorities at colleges and universities and interact with college reps during their EC school visits to understand individual college priorities.
Belong and participate with NACAC, PNACAC and ACCIS to grow professionally, share collaborative content and keep abreast of college-related issues.
Collaborate with school counselors to better guide and support the social and emotional lives of students.
