Develops, implements, and assesses all undergraduate student pre-orientation programs working collaboratively with Campus and Student Life, Housing & Residence Life, and subunits in the College Dean of Students Office.This includes in-person programming for on campus students as well as synchronous and asynchronous online programming.
Works collaboratively with the Director of College Programming and Orientation on the budgeting, planning, and execution of pre-orientation programs and immersive experiences, including communications, marketing, websites, waivers, and logistics.
Leads the College Pre-Orientation Committee, including meeting scheduling, setting deadlines, coordinating campus-wide pre-orientation marketing efforts, and engaging campus partners.
Oversees and manages the successful coordination of program logistics, including risk management protocols, transportation, housing, catering, speakers, and activities for all pre-orientation programs/immersive experiences and other year-around student development programs.
Leads in the hiring, training, and supervision of pre-orientation student directors and pre-orientation leaders.
Responsible for the program websites and all relevant student and family communications.
Develops appropriate needs-based programming and introduces students to new skills or opportunities for engagement throughout the College and/or the city of Chicago.
Supports other office programming related to pre-orientations, events, ceremonies, and student development.
Manages the hiring, training, performance review, and management of time of the Assistant Director of Pre-Orientation and Student Development.
Oversees and manages the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of orientation student directors, orientation leaders, peer mentors, and transfer student directors.
Fosters a positive team dynamic among staff and student leaders.
Represents the CPO by meeting with various campus offices to plan and execute programs. Partners may include Alumni Relations & Development, Campus & Student Life, Career Advancement, Center for Identity + Inclusion, Center for Leadership and Involvement, College Academic Advising Office, College Admissions, College Center for Research and Fellowships, College Deanâ™s Office, Housing & Residence Life, Office of Civic Engagement, Office of the University Registrar, University Events & Ceremonies, and others.
Oversees the planning for and expenditure of a $900,000 budget.Works with the Director to review expenditures and forecast future budgetary needs, including additional programs or adjustment to those already in place.
Ensures that University financial policies are followed, and supervised staff are well-trained in all matters related to Pre-Orientation finances.
Responsible for the development and subsequent assessment of all learning and program outcomes for all Orientation programs, services, and activities. Supports College efforts to measure success; retention and satisfaction with Orientation; oversees the collection and evaluation of all qualitative and quantitative data related to program goals and objectives.
Provides guidance and direction to student staff membersâ™ project work and evaluates staff membersâ™ performance/provide constructive feedback.
Guides students and staff to develop and implement activities, programs, and initiatives related to student life, and/or community involvement.
Markets student activities programming throughout the year. Develops and implements protocols for evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
Performs other related work as needed.
Bachelorâ™s degree, liberal arts preferred.
Masterâ™s degree in higher education/college student personnel or related field.
Minimally 5 years professional work experience in higher education.
Specialized knowledge of college student development and event planning.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficiency in Mac and PC environments.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and online organizational tools.
Familiarity with Adobe graphic design/web development environments.
Oversee and direct highly detailed concurrent projects with competing priorities, in a time sensitive, efficient manner.
Must be able to work independently exercising sound judgement, reasoning, and strong problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Takes initiative, thinks creatively, and produces outcomes on own drive without detailed oversight.
Maintains confidentiality/discretion at all times related to students, faculty, and staff and responds effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Demonstrated creation and implementation of results-oriented programs and initiatives for student success and retention.
Proven ability to create and implement program/initiative assessment.
Demonstrated experience in collaboration among colleagues and/or departments.
Some evening and weekend work.
Lift up to 40 lbs.
Push carts with up to 50 lbs. of material.
Sit at a computer for 4-6 hours.
Periodic walking to other campus locations.
Climbing up to 5 flights of stairs.
