Assistant Director – Activities & Involvement - Campus Life
Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Activities & Involvement in the Department of Campus Life. Reporting to the Director of Campus Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing relevant and high-quality programs and experiences for LSU students. With the overarching goals of growing student engagement on campus, creating events relevant to the student body, continuing campus traditions, and building higher quality support for registered organizations, the Assistant Director will increase a sense of belonging on campus and enhance students’ overall university experience. Through meaningful and interdependent relationships with students and colleagues, the Assistant Director plays a key role in the advancement of LSU and Division of Student Affairs’ priorities.

- Creation, oversight, and execution of programs, services, events, and experiences led by Campus Life
- Cultivating an environment where student organizations can be successful
- Supervise and support full-time, graduate, and student staff members while overseeing their continued professional development and success
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP:
Improve the programmatic model to maximize the student experience
Students deserve programs and events that are dynamic, creative, and relevant with the goal of providing this on a consistent basis. The Assistant Director for Activities & Involvement will work alongside the Director to revise the existing program model and be responsible for executing the final model that will inform and influence campus-wide engagement of students.
Focus on students’ capacity building through student organization involvement
Students arrive on campus from dependent or interdependent relationships with their families. Leadership and involvement in student organizations offers opportunities to develop independence and practice skill-building during their time on campus and in preparation for life afterward. The Assistant Director for Activities & Involvement will help with these efforts by working to build capacity in all LSU student organization leaders.
Make it easy to be a registered student organization
Institutional and departmental policies that are not continually evaluated and updated can create barriers to student organization success. The Assistant Director for Activities & Involvement will make it easy to be a student organization by examining existing policies and practices while proposing innovative ways to support organizations.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Support (50%):
- Responsible for developing operational strategy and oversight for one or more program areas, including administering campus wide programming and the support of registered student organizations, their leaders, and advisors.
- Plans, organizes, administers and delivers programming to undergraduate and graduate students for the A&M Campus.
- Provide oversight of major programming initiatives including Homecoming Fall Fest, and Holiday Spectacular among other events. Work directly with vendors, external organizations and various LSU departments on program needs and logistics. Direct Campus Life student program assistants to help deliver programs and conduct ongoing assessment to ensure programs are relevant and meet current student's needs.
Student Support, Leadership & Management (35%)
- Responsible for direct supervision, training, and continued development of several individuals, including the Involvement Coordinator, graduate assistants, and student program assistants.
- Recommends personnel actions to the department head and communicates personnel actions to direct report(s) in the areas of programming and registered student organization support.
- Demonstrates divisional attitudes and priorities in all aspects of work through administering programming, advising student organizations, and working with stakeholders across the LSU community.
- Translates department efforts, initiatives, and goals to students through written and verbal communication to students, supervision of undergraduate workers, and interactions at programs, services, events, and experiences facilitated by the department.
Quality Control (10%):
- Ensures every aspect of programmatic, administrative, and financial, outputs with which the role has oversight including administrative tasks (i.e., Workday, contracts for programs, supervision), implementation, and overall design of programs and initiatives from the department exudes a high degree of quality.
- Sets quality expectations for areas of oversight regarding setting timelines for programs and events, determining communication plans, and assessing efforts for continual improvement.
- Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve levels of all services, events, programs, and experiences in the department for continuous improvement every academic year through conducting assessment of programmatic efforts and experiences of students in student organizations.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%):
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Life or leadership from the Student Affairs Central Office.
- This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in college student personnel, higher education, or related field with 1 year of related experience OR
- Bachelor's degree & 3 years of related experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in college student personnel, higher education, or related field.
- Three years of full-time experience with delivering campus-wide activities and/or student organization programming.
- Experience supervising full-time and/or graduate assistant staff.
- Experience with the delivery of campus-wide programming rooted in design thinking.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:
As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Ability and willingness to work frequent evening and weekend hours.
