Department PurposeStudent Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Residential Academic Programs, work in partnership with Residential Academic Programs staff, colleges, and student affairs units to develop, manage, and provide academic support services for residents. This includes the Residential Academic Peer Mentoring (PM) program, the Residential Academic Centers (RACs), academic focused programs and events, and faculty engagement opportunities. Specifically, plan, market, implement & evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Co-supervise the residential Academic Peer Mentor staff. Co-coordinate recruitment, selection and hiring of student staff. Assist in development, implementation and instruction for peer mentor training including a credit bearing course. Develop academic support and retention programs for special populations (first-generation, transfer, second year, and international). Prepare reports, provide recommendations and make presentations to varied audiences of students, staff, faculty and administrators. Research and analyze data & trends from relevant fields. Apply extensive expertise in student development theories, as well as a strong background in academic support, first-year experience programs, teaching and training, supervision and program management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Work in front of a computer terminal and use keyboard for extended periods of time.
- Lift and carry boxes of publications and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Stoop, bend, kneel, and lift to organize storage units.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - The Smoke and Tobacco Free Environment policy is intended to provide a healthier, safer, and more productive work and learning environment for the entire UC community. - Work and travel in extreme temperatures during orientation.
- May work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Special hazards of the position may be exposure to chicken pox, hepatitis B and/or other infectious diseases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Education/Experience: - Experience in university level academic development in a first-year experience, and/or residence life program, aimed at first-year and transfer students in a four-year, not-for-profit college.
- Experience in supervision to recruit, hire, train, direct work, motivate, evaluate and discipline student staff employees.
- Experience in program/event management to manage details of multiple projects simultaneously, synthesize information, evaluate programs, policies, recommend solutions, and resolve both service and personnel issues.
- Experience applying multicultural competencies and concepts in an academic environment including issues impacting first-generation, international and transfer students.
- Experience in the application and presentation of student affairs or student development theories, practices & principles, including knowledge of the personal & social issues encountered by college students.
- Experience designing and delivering group and individual training programs based upon mission, goals & learning outcomes.
- Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships in a cross-cultural environment, with students, staff, faculty, administrators.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreferred Education/Experience: - A Master's degree in university college student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field, or combination of relevant experience and education.
- Experience working under pressure of deadlines, heavy meeting schedules, sizeable numbers of student contacts, and uneven time constraints and maintain a high level of productivity in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience abiding by and enforcing FERPA, state laws, university policies and other general laws & policies applicable to student enrollment, privacy/confidentiality, and advising.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Effective interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
