The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of the largest academic units within Cornell University and is home to the mechanical engineering (ME) B.S. degree program, as well as graduate programs in the fields of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering (AE) and theoretical and applied mechanics (TAM). MAE's mission is to conduct visionary research in pursuit of the world's next great advances while providing a world-class education to tomorrow's leaders in the fields of mechanical and aerospace engineering.
The Opportunity
Under general direction from the Director of Graduate Studies for Mechanical Engineering and the Director of Administration, the Graduate Field Administrator for Masters of Science and Distance Learning is primarily responsible for the administration and coordination of the M.S. program and distance learning program in Mechanical Engineering.
The position will be responsible for overseeing all academic activities relating to graduate students from initial inquiry, application, recruitment, and matriculation through graduation. Responsibility includes administration of the admissions and selection process; general orientation; administrative advising of students; records administration; preparing and updating information, materials, publications and communications related to graduate programs. The position will regularly interact with students and answer questions regarding degree requirements.
In addition, the position will be responsible for entering, maintaining, updating, analyzing, and reporting on data in related information systems. Coordinate with accounting and payroll representatives for administration of graduate student appointments. Key liaison between Graduate School, Bursar's Office, University Registrar and Engineering Student Services. Represent fields and department to college, university and other constituencies.
The successful candidate will cross train with the Graduate Field Administrator for PhD the program and will provide back up and support to that incumbent, as necessary to jointly administer the M.S. and PhD graduate programs in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Please note, that the successful candidate must be available for work commencement weekend.
This position is highly visible within the Sibley School and university, and offers a hybrid work arrangement, with four days expected on-site, and one day remote work.
What We Need:
Bachelor's degree; two-years experience in student services or a related field.
Superior customer service.
Ability to handle complex and sensitive situations and data.
Ability to use a variety of software applications such as Excel, Filemaker Pro, and Brio to manage, analyze, project, and report data.
Ability to counsel and advise both faculty and students on sensitive or confidential topics.
Strong written and oral communications skills required.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, problem solve, and multi-task under tight deadlines.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will allow for the flexibility to work remotely one day per week at a location of employee's choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
