The Husky Union Building (HUB) serves as the center of the UW community life and complements the student experience through an extensive variety of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs. These programs provide the opportunity to balance course work and free time in the Husky Experience. The D Center supports, empowers, and mentors disabled, Deaf, chronically ill, and neuro diverse students and enhances the visibility and engagement of disability experiences on the UW-Seattle campus. The D Center strives to create an inclusive, accessible space affirming of all bodies, minds, and identities by fostering a sense of community and a culture of social justice and pride. SUMMARY
The Hub has an outstanding opportunity for D Center Manager. The Manager supports D Center operations and staff and collaborates with other student entities, student services, and academic programs to develop and fulfill its mission. The position will maintain an affirming and supportive environment through advising, communication, education, and advocacy for the D Center’s staff and student leaders. The Manager will cultivate and promote the mission of the D Center throughout campus and raise awareness of disability justice, needs, and accessibility.
The Manager will lead all aspects of the Center including, but not limited to: developing and implementing programs; hiring and training student staff; developing and managing budgets; and developing and maintaining referral sources. The position will work with the disabled and Deaf community to create leadership opportunities for students and enhance the cultural efforts at the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Hire, supervise, and coordinate D Center student staff with programming, administrative functions, daily operations of the Center, and budget management. Create and implement programming focused on Disabled and Deaf issues, communities, and culture including programming for D Month (i.e., speakers, performers, and facilitated workshops). Coordinate and assist in the development and implementation of programs and services designed to enhance the intellectual and leadership development of students. Collaborate with and serve as a liaison with campus entities including but not limited to: Disability Resources for Students, Disability Studies, Deaf Studies, HUB Student Activities Office, Q Center, Student Veteran Life, ASUW Students with Disabilities Commission, ASUW, GPSS, and the Services and Activities Fee Committee. Advise with a student-centered approach to advocacy focusing on the D Center’s goal to empower students. Ensure that D Center programs and operations are in compliance with applicable campus, federal, and state policies, rules, and regulations (e.g., personnel, budget, risk and liability, contracts). Ability to interpret and outline intent of policies and procedures to staff and volunteers. Provide training and evaluation of student staff and leaders. Advise staff in program development and implementation including the use of services and facilities on campus. Advise and serve as liaison with on- and off-campus programming entities and assist with preparation of programming contracts and agreements. Coordinate and assist with promotions, outreach, and awareness. Communicate to supervisor about trends, issues, and concerns related to the disabled and Deaf student communities. Perform budget analysis and collect program data to evaluate programmatic impact. Prepare annual funding applications to SAF and other sources of revenue. Prepare reports and statistical data as required by the Services and Activities Fee Committee and Student Life. Maintain and update historical records and files related programs and services. Related/other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies, Psychology, or similar discipline. Two to three years substantial and demonstrated experience working with the disabled and Deaf communities, preferably in a higher education setting. A high commitment to and experience with coalition building, outreach, and advocacy around multiple marginalized communities. Experience with helping students navigate large systems and the systemic issues that might result. Demonstrated leadership in development of new programs. Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fluency in American Sign Language. Knowledge of universal design and social model of disability. Knowledge of assistive technologies for people with disabilities. Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students. Knowledge of anti-oppression values. Experience working in the fields of Higher Education and College Unions is preferred. Experience supervising students is preferred.
