Reporting to the Director of Student Psychological Services, this position provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis/rapid response, psychoeducation workshops and community outreach. Provide supervision to postdoctoral residents.
This is an 11 month assignment.
Position Specific Responsibilities
Provide psychological services (assessment, psychotherapy, crisis response) to a diverse clientele of individuals, couples, and groups whose concerns may vary from general developmental concerns to more severe psychological disturbances. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and academic backgrounds of college students who often have a history of trauma related to racism, identity, and domestic / sexual abuse.
Provide consultation and guidance to Student Affairs staff, academic departments, and other University entities regarding community issues, and emergency situations.
Provide and collaborate with Student Affairs and other University departments in a variety of programs that promote the mental health and well-being of individual students to foster healthy communities.
Demonstrate personal, professional and ethical qualities consistent with the standards of the Student Psychological Service center and California licensure requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge and embrace the university's Mission and values.
Provide supervision, consultation and evidence based training for Postdoctoral Residents consistent with the SPS Postdoctoral Residency and APPIC guidelines.
Serve on divisional or university communities at the request of the Director.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Experience/Qualifications
Experience in trauma treatment and crisis intervention with survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, racialization, and other trauma.
Experience working with communities of color and other diverse populations.
Strong clinical skills in assessment and treatment, particularly with at risk clients and clients with trauma histories.
Ability to effectively address issues of race, gender, and ethnicity with the campus community to promote social justice.
Exemplary communication skills (written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and summaries and outreach presentations.
Counseling experience in higher education environment preferred.
Minimum of three years experience in direct psychological service.
Supervisory experience required.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Strong work ethic.
Experience using virtual platforms, Telehealth to provide therapy, outreach, workshop training.
Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of social media, electronic records and other relevant computer systems.
Required Education
Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology preferred. Typically a Masters degree in Marriage Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, or Professional Counselor required
Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
