The Director of Course Management leads the Course Management Team to implement the dental school educational coursework delivery. The position works with the Clinical Affairs Office, the Office of Academic Support, the Office of Dental Education, and Informatics in coordinating the necessary technology, curriculum, and academic components to successfully implement the overall school classroom curriculum. The position is responsible for monitoring the completion and evaluation of each year (DS1, DS2, DS3, DS4) required skills assessments to successfully transition students to their upcoming year. The Director of Course Management will report to the Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics in the Office of Dental Education and Informatics.

This unique curriculum requires a constant coordination between students and faculty. The Director of Course Management will work with a team of Course Managers for each class to provide tactical integration of all course components.Specific duties include:

-Plans and directs the development and implementation of all course components.
-Represents the Course Management Team in all working committees for Curriculum and Clinical Affairs.
-Determines resource requirements and coordination of systems to transfer the school's course content (lectures, seminars, labs, and exams) and translates the proposed workflow into the initial set-up of the electronic operational systems.
-Advises, directs, and prioritizes the work load of the course management team.
-Responsible for the successful technological delivery of entire school and interface of course materials from the instructor to the students; also responsible for the successful implementation and delivery of assessments and examinations by all students.
-Conducts comprehensive analysis of all student schedules with regard to the course content, course outlines, instructional and navigational templates and provide feedback to the Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics on any issues.
-Provide technological direction to the educational team to ensure appropriate educational support is available for all course activity.
-Ensures systems properly monitor the curriculum evaluation of student participation and provides accurate feedback to the instructors; likewise, ensures the systems are capable and accurate in the student assessment of faculty performance.
-Applies project planning and project management methodologies for assigned projects.
-Maintains a close relationship with instructors to ensure technology outputs meet the educational requirements.
-Utilizes the technology to create and run specialized reports for faculty and administrators.

Master's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor's degree in the assigned discipline and two years of experience in educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Advanced knowledge of learning management systems, learning content management systems, and survey creation and implementation systems is required.

Good interpersonal skills to work with diverse group of people also required.

The Division of Health Sciences is the largest and most complex division within the University, employing more than 900 EHRA employees and 1,700 SHRA employees. The Division is composed of numerous Centers, Institutes, and agencies such as East Carolina Heart Institute and Eastern Area Health Education Center, the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Nursing, the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the Laupus Health Science Library. In addition to the Academic and Administrative responsibilities of the division, the four professional schools provide clinical services throughout eastern North Carolina in a variety of settings and venues.
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.

Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
