Position Summary
Under the leadership of the Associate Director, Health Promotion, and as part of the team that is responsible for promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and community health, the Health Promotion Specialist will work on a variety of multifaceted health promotion initiatives for the campus community. They will oversee the implementation of digital health information resource(s) and make enhancements based on sound theory and evidenced-informed practice of health literacy and college health promotion. The Health Promotion Specialist will also assist the team that works to make the campus healthier by connecting students to information and resources that will value and enhance a healthy community.
Responsibilities
Manage and produce digital health information resource(s) (60%)
- Oversee the workflow process for publishing digital health information; manage, organize, write, edit and publish site content
- Manage content postings, including publishing on a regular interval
- Recommend evidence-informed, equity-minded, and student-centered enhancements to digital health information resource processes, content, and overall program management
- Facilitate and participate in digital health information resource process meetings
- Recruit and train student staff on a continual basis; train Alice! Health Promotion team members on digital health information resource-related responsibilities
- Supervise work efforts of students who contribute to digital health information resource workflow; train and onboard student staff in their responsibilities on the Alice! Health Promotion team
- In partnership with the Associate Director, Health Promotion and Senior Health Promotion Specialist, align digital health information resource content and format with health literacy and well-being efforts
- In collaboration with Associate Director, Health Promotion and Senior Health Promotion Specialist, develop strategy for utilizing digital health information resource(s) (e.g., Go Ask Alice! Anonymous health Q&A resource) as a health literacy tool
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents for processes required to use and maintain digital health information resource(s)
Support maintenance of digital health information resource technology (20%)
- Partner with developers to ensure website functionality and engage with developers to anticipate and address errors on digital health information resource(s)
- Conduct usability testing; document potential errors or security breaches
- Collaborate with Columbia Health IT and consultant vendors to ensure digital health information resource(s) are maintained and operating effectively
- Participate in design review and provide input on requirements for digital health information resource(s)
Participate in Health Promotion processes to advance community health and well-being (15%)
- Partner with colleagues in Alice! Health Promotion to enhance public health and community well- being
- Assist with the dissemination and the advancement of Columbia University???s well-being dimensions
- Serve on committees and task forces and participate in professional group meetings to advance and contribute to the causes of public health and health related issues
- Respond to inquiries about health information and services from students, staff and faculty, referring, when appropriate to campus resources or community organizations
Perform other duties as assigned (5%)
III. Supervision Received or Exercised
The Health Promotion Specialist will report directly to the Associate Director, Alice Health Promotion. Incumbent will supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff and oversee the Go Ask Alice! responsibilities of Alice! Health Promotion staff.
IV. Responsibilities for Budget / Assets
Under the guidance of the Associate Director, the Health Promotion Specialist may be responsible for recommending budgets for specific health promotion initiatives and keeping initiatives within budget.
V. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor???s degree and and/or its equivalent required
- Requires a Minimum 2-4 years??? experience in college health promotion or closely related filed
- Sound understanding of undergraduate and graduate students??? development issues, health needs and interests, and ability to design health promotion initiatives that reflect the social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of student
- Superior public speaking, group facilitation, writing, and editing skills
- Creativity, flexibility, and ability to communicate and work effectively and efficiently with diverse groups within the University
- Position requires strong computer skills, including digital content production and management, web development, and ability to learn technology quickly
- Some evening and weekend hours required
Preferred Experience:
- Master???s degree in Public Health, Health Education, or closely related field strongly preferred
- CHES or CPH certified or eligible (with intent to become certified). Knowledge of health promotion theory and evidence-informed practice, and ability to translate and apply that theory with a university population
- Knowledgeable in health content areas relevant to college students, including but not limited to: alcohol and other drug use and abuse prevention, physical activity, nutrition, eating disorders, relationship development, sexuality, sexual health, sexual assault, and mental health issues is preferred
- Specific experience desired in program development, evaluation and web development. Must be detailed-oriented, possesses strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Up to date knowledge on web and digital platforms and digital testing methodologies preferred
