The College of Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for an Academic Services - Assistant Director.
The Academic Services-Assistant Director provides leadership on student academic affairs and on curricular and co-curricular activities for the Office of Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering. Responsibilities include leadership, development, and administration of academic misconduct, international programs and exchanges, scholarship and fellowship, and curriculum processes for the College of Engineering.
This position serves as the lead staff member on student related administrative issues and requires substantial decision-making in order to provide guidance to College leadership, faculty, advisors, staff, and students on student academic topics as it relates to academic misconduct, international programs and exchanges, scholarship and fellowship, and curriculum processes. This position ensures decisions made regarding student misconduct procedures follow campus guidelines and procedures, requiring close coordination with both College and Campus partners.
This position provides analytical support for the Office of Academic Affairs and must generate and interpret data on students enrolled in the College of Engineering. As such, this position requires a strong understanding of undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering as well as a deep understanding of UW academic policies and procedures. This position is responsible for directing the international exchange programs within the College and the person in this role must have a comprehensive understanding of the trends and challenges related to international experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. Substantial collaboration and coordination with CoE leadership as well as faculty and staff from various academic and administrative units across campus and at universities abroad is required
The College of Engineering has experienced a significant amount of growth in all programs in recent years and anticipates this trend to continue as the College refines Direct to College (DTC), expands its certificate and professional graduate degree offerings, and implements other innovative policies. This position plays a central role in the administration of academic policies within CoE impacting all degree programs, including roughly 5000 undergraduate and 3000 graduate engineering students enrolled at the University. This position is also critical to ensuring the effective management of the College's international programs and exchanges and will be instrumental in implementing and supporting new study abroad initiatives. The position will work with staff at peer educational institutions nationally and abroad to develop and execute various categories of collaboration agreements. The Assistant Director is responsible for contributing to the completion of national surveys, including, but not limited to, the annual American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the US News and World Reports survey on engineering graduate programs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration of Student Academic Affairs (65%): •Serve as conduct officer for conduct proceedings for engineering students. Partner with the Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct on the administration of processes for adjudicating academic misconduct allegations. •Serve as a resource to the College Council on Educational Policy (CEP) on policies and procedures relating to course and academic program curriculum proposals. •Serve as a resource to support and harmonize departmental curriculum processes, including disseminating best practices for program and course proposal creation and submission. •Review and consider course and curriculum proposals in the online Curriculum Management system for College-level approval. •Manage the College-level scholarship and fellowship processes. Work with other Academic Affairs staff and leadership on selection of scholarship/fellowship recipients, processing awards and developing reports for College leadership. •Monitor scholarship and fellowship budgets and projections for award amounts. Collaborate with Computing Services and departmental staff on administration of the College online scholarship tool. •Develop processes and procedures for strategic completion of surveys from outside organizations such as ASEE, US News & World Reports, and Peterson's Guide for Graduate Programs. Generate student data required for the surveys and coordinate with other units as necessary to generate data on faculty, staff, research expenditures, etc. •Partner with the Director of Institutional Research and College advising staff to generate and interpret student data in areas such as admission, enrollment, student retention, degree production, etc. •Facilitate College-level activities around graduate program administration and communications including, but not limited to, regular meetings of department graduate program advisors. •Implement time schedule coordination for College of Engineering (ENGR) courses, including support to ENGR course instructors, course evaluations, purchasing texts, distributing add codes, etc. •Serve as lead to Academic Affairs Program Coordinator and provide work and direction. •Serve as the policy lead for Engineering Student Organization coordination and management; provide direction and coordinate with Engineering Advising, departmental, and college staff to enable Engineering Student Organization activities.
International Programs (35%): •Partner with the Senior Director, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Office of Global Affairs on the development of a College-level strategy for international engagement opportunities. •Supervise limited term employees running various study abroad programs. •Actively participate in study abroad activities as required to establish and maintain ties with international affiliates and develop and advance relationships with partner institutions. •Evaluate and implement study abroad program and exchange program improvements. •Review existing study abroad programs, renew agreements as needed, and support the process of establishing new exchange and other program partnerships. •Develop information and lead orientation and re-entry sessions for study abroad students. •Manage and track student exchange program inflows and outflows to monitor program balance and effectiveness. •Coordinate the application and selection processes for study abroad and exchange programs. •Provide guidance to College faculty and staff in developing international engagement opportunities. •Develop and maintain student facing websites on College study abroad options in partnership with CoE web team.

Supervisory Responsibilities •Supervise temporary employees working on specific study abroad programs. •Provide work and direction to Program Coordinator.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor's Degree in management, international studies, or related field. •Five years of project management or administrative experience in an academic, business, or non-profit setting.
Additional requirements: •Professional experience in higher education, experience managing academic programs and interacting with industry in a higher-education setting. •Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff and students, including the ability to work as an effective team member. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. •Exceptional oral and written communications skills. •Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain successful partnerships. •Ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, including those for whom English is a second language. •Strong skills in Microsoft Excel. •Understanding of international education trends and challenges. •Superior administrative and organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of varied, detailed tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. •Availability to work some evenings and weekends and ability to travel as needed/required to study abroad sites for the purpose of building and maintaining partnerships.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •Master’s Degree in management, international studies, or related field. •Successful supervisory skills, personnel management and resource allocation. •Familiarity with UW academic policies and procedures related to academics and curriculum. •Prior experience in student conduct, behavioral intervention, or related work. •Prior experience managing international study abroad programs. •Interest in working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment. •Experience in curriculum development. •Working knowledge of Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), B.I. Portal, EARS, SDB, DARS, and MyGrad Programs. •Understanding of engineering undergraduate and graduate programs.
