Salary: $47,000-$52,000 (Salary to be commensurate with education and experience)
General Statement of Duties: Under the leadership of the Director, TRIO Student Support Services Program, the Program Coordinator will assist program staff in creating, overseeing, evaluating, and evolving academic initiatives, programs and services, and other activities that will support the mission of a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services project in accordance with the U.S Department of Education approved grant.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing comprehensive academic and personal action plans with project participants in order to support their academic adjustment, decision-making, academic achievement, and persistence. This Program Coordinator position will have a special focus on Graduation Readiness programming, related to workforce readiness, graduate school preparation and application, and financial literacy and wellness.
The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Director and other project personnel to successfully achieve the goals and objectives of the project and of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:Duties include but not limited to:Essential:- Maintain a student caseload; provide academic, psychosocial, career, graduate school, financial literacy counseling, coaching, and advising.
- Develop academic and personal success plans with program participants, taking into consideration individualized student needs and specific TRIO services.
- Assess participant academic performance; teach academic skills and learning strategies as needed.
- Coordination of information related to workforce readiness, graduate or professional school preparation & application, and financial literacy and wellness. Develop and implement assessments of these services, and make changes to services as needed. Act as liaison between the TRIO Program and University's Career Center, Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA), Financial Aid, and other campus entities to coordinate collaborative programming.
- Provide collaborative support to students to assess their personal needs with financial literacy, issues affecting academic performance, and life after graduation.
- Establish and maintain liaisons with important campus resources to ensure required services are provided to TRIO project participants.
- Maintain student files and electronic records in program data systems.
- Design and facilitate academic, personal development, financial literacy, social enrichment, career, financial, and graduate school programming using a range of modalities (in-person and remote).
- Participate in the planning and implementation of a recruitment and persistence plan; uphold equal access to project services for participants.
- Attend periodic, relevant professional development opportunities.
- Participate in university-wide initiatives.
- Perform other duties and manage projects as assigned by Director, TRIO Student Support Services Program.
Requirements:Required Qualifications:- Master's degree in a relevant field (Education, Behavioral and/or Social Science, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration).
- A minimum of three years working with college students needing specialized support.
- Previous experience working with students with documented disabilities, and students from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of college/university academic and financial assistance procedures; ability to work with sensitive and confidential student information.
- Knowledge of theories and best practices in student academic development.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience advising undergraduate students (strongly preferred).
- Experience working with a TRIO Program (or similar program).
- Demonstrated abilities to establish and maintain a productive working relationship with multiple constituencies across campus.
- Experience with facilitation and design of presentations, workshops and/or seminars.
- Working knowledge of student management database systems such as BANNER, Degree Works, and BLUMEN.
- Preference is given to candidates with similar backgrounds to populations the program serves (first generation college, low-income, or having a documented disability).
Additional Information:Salary:For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
