The Multicultural Recruitment Coordinator plans and implements a student recruitment program designed to meet enrollment goals of diverse student populations. The person in this position will be responsible for leading, managing, mentoring and coaching the multicultural recruitment intern, will cultivate relationships with key constituents, including community leaders, campus partners, career resource counselors, and school counselors as means of ensuring a thorough understanding of the University of Minnesota Duluth's admissions process. Further, this position ensures that relationships with high school students are established and developed, resulting in a strong, qualified pool of ethnically diverse and academically prepared students in support of the university's overall enrollment goal.

The ideal candidate will also have a talent for fostering relationships and providing excellent customer service to students, families, mentors, and other influencers within schools, communities, and organizations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Job Duties:
Multicultural Student Recruitment (40%)
Responsible for planning and implementing a multicultural recruitment program to encourage prospective students to apply and enroll at UMD.
- Participates as a member of the undergraduate recruitment team; and serves as mentor to other admissions employees specifically surrounding BIPOC recruitment strategies;
- Serves as territory manager for targeted area schools in the twin cities and surrounding area;
- Provides the highest level of customer service to prospective students, their parent/guardians, and school officials;
- Builds relationships with high school and community college personnel throughout specified recruitment territory;
- Coordinates outreach activities & programs such as in person/virtual classroom presentations, student panels, calling campaigns focused on BIPOC students.
- Represents UMD at off-campus college fairs, high school events, and other recruitment and yield activities throughout the Midwest region of the US;
- Coordinates and manages the application review process for underrepresented populations;
- Participates in on-campus visit programming including Admitted Student Days, Multicultural Experience day, Campus Preview, Saturday Visit Programs, and Prospective Student Visit Days;
- Partners and liaises with key campus partners, including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI),American Indian Learning Resource Center (AILRC), American Indian Studies Department and Center for American Indian and Minority Health to support the enrollment of multicultural populations;
- Manages territory queue which involves application file review for first year and transfer students, make admissions recommendations based on academic requirement and program choice compatibility and provide additional follow up contact via phone call email and text;
- Monitors admitted student progress through financial aid, scholarship, housing, advisement, registration, and orientation processes.
Special Group Visit and BIPOC Event Coordination (15%)
In coordination with the Coordinator of Campus Visits & Programming:
- Coordinates and facilitates "day of' visit logistics, including direction, presentation, facilitation of student panels, and tour dismissal for diverse special group visits;
- Collaborates with Coordinator to accommodate specific group requests;
- Leads, Manages, and Executes large-scale multicultural recruitment events such as Multicultural Experience Day in the Fall and Multicultural Admitted Student day in the Spring.
College Bound Organization (CBO), Government Agency, and Community Outreach (15%)
- Builds and maintains collegial and productive working relationships with CBOs, government agencies, and community organizations to support the recruitment of multicultural populations;
- Identifies and builds a database of key organizational contacts;
- Provides outreach to schools and organizations with diverse populations to initiate opportunities for underserved students to access University admission;
- Serves as the primary point of contact for CBOs such as College Possible, AVID, Achieve Minneapolis, Upward Bound and similar organizations, and create admissions programs in collaboration with Multicultural recruitment intern and Office of Diversity & Inclusion;
- Provides active participation in professional associations such as MnACC and MACAC.
Supervision of Multicultural Recruitment Intern (MRI) (20%)
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of the MRI annually;
- Directs the MRI in the creation of outreach efforts such as texting, email, letters to increase communications among students of color/native students.
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
- Represents the Office of Admissions on campus committees and to constituent groups;
- Represents the Office of Admissions at professional conferences and events;
- Researches, coordinates, and assists with multicultural training opportunities for admissions staff such as updating the SWOT Analysis for multicultural recruitment;
- Works closely with the associate director to ensure strong stakeholder confidence from students, families, and on-campus colleagues;
- Maintains and strengthens key partners in campus multicultural recruitment efforts;
- Assist with various assigned office responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (BA/BS)
- 4 years of related experience (student experience can be considered)
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in practice
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel regionally for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high school and/or university students from under-represented environments to include Asian, African American, American Indian and/or Latinx populations
- Fluency in a second language
- Experience within higher education admissions/recruitment
- Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate recruiting plans
- Demonstrated regard for quality and accuracy, attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to plan and prioritize work
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and external parties
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
- Experience with program and event development and management
- Experience advising high school and/or college aged students regarding academic decisions and success
- Strong communication skills in both interpersonal and group settings
- Experience in utilizing and analyzing data to inform actions and decisions
- Evidence of flexibility and responsiveness in meeting new challenges
- Excellent customer service and relationship building skills
- Ability to demonstrate qualifications related to public speaking, and writing
- Able to work evenings/weekends as needed
- MA/MS degree in counseling, education, psychology, business, student development, student affairs or related fields
- Experience or training in PeopleSoft/Banner, and Salesforce/Slate (Technoloutions)
