The position will require service to the WCC campus, Crossroads Institute in Galax, and WCC at the Henderson in Marion, and the local region. The primary purpose of the position is to provide a consistent point of contact and to assist students with understanding and completing program requirements. The Health Professions and Medical Services Recruitment and Retention Specialist works collaboratively with the Office of the Registrar, Student Services, Public Information, and other departments as related to recruitment, enrollment, and retention of WCC Health Professions students. This position also works with local high schools, Career Coaches, and external service programs to recruit and enroll students based on WCC program selective admissions standards.Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:Collaborating with the Health Professions Program Heads in regards to program support and retention objectives, which includes student recruitment, selective admissions advising, program orientation, and retention strategies;Working with counselors, Career Coaches, faculty, and local/state agencies in the target area to market programs and offerings of WCC;Collecting, compiling, analyzing, and documenting a complete participant record. Assisting with the development and individualized Student Success Plan for each student recruited who applies for admission;Assisting with the assessment of the academic and career goals of both applicants and students at each phase of recruitment, enrollment, and retention process;Coordinating student support efforts related to cultural awareness, study skills, reading, writing, goal-setting, oral skills and academic skills before, during, and after program enrollment;Coordinating study skills sessions and workshops to students required to complete the TEAS Test and other program and licensure specific evaluations;Serving as the primary point of contact for selective admissions and pre-health students during their application process to Health Professions Programs. The position will assist with outreach and be required to maintain active communication with and assistance to students waiting for program entry. It is expected the position will assist applicants during their transition from interested citizen, to candidate, to accepted student either in Health Professions Programs or in other WCC programs as appropriate to student needs;Serving as a liaison to students who are not allowed selective admissions, are at risk of academic failure, or who leave their program of choice. This will include referring students to advisors/counselors to help students identify alternative pathways to success and career accomplishment;Participating on teams to identify barriers to student success in retention and graduation rates;Collaborating with the WCC Success and Career Coaches on recruitment activities for local high schools; andPerforming other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent;Experience working in a collaborative work environment that required strong communication and relationship building skills;Experience working with internet applications and PC-based software (Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Chrome, etc.);Outstanding customer service experience;Strong organizational skills.
