The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Cornell University is among the largest schools in College of Engineering, and consistently ranks among the top ECE schools nationally. ECE's programs encompass digital and computer systems, embedded processors, digital signal processing, RF (wireless) systems, optical communications, atmospheric and space plasmas, energy and power engineering, solid-state electronics, integrated circuit design and fabrication, bioelectrical devices and circuits, and biomedical applications such as image processing, sensors, and signal analysis, and more. The department supports approximately 175 undergraduates, 130 Master of Engineering students and over 100 Ph.D. students.
What you will do:
Within ECE the Undergraduate Coordinator plays a key role in the success and well-being of the undergraduate population and in particular to the "affiliated" majors to the degree program. This role is often a first point of contact for prospective/current students and their families and also represents the public face of the department to those populations. As a critical part of a college/university-wide system to support student success, the incumbent coordinates a significant portion of the departmental administrative and operational functions related to the undergraduate degree program, collaborates with Engineering Student Services to develop and implement services to support undergraduate students, and is part of the team that addresses students of concern or at risk. This role may be exposed to highly confidential and sensitive information.
Under the direction of the Administrative Director and working closely with the Assistant Director of MEng/PhD Program and the Director of Undergraduate Studies, the Undergraduate Coordinator provides support to the undergraduate degree program (major and minor) which includes the following responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the ongoing operations of the program, e.g., ensure timely decisions related to affiliation to the major, correspond with students, maintain records, coordinate academic committees and reviews, and process academic actions
Coordinate, schedule and organize logistics for departmental courses
Coordinate activity related to the program requirements, e.g., manage student and course data, report and support the accreditation process (as needed)
Provide one on one student advising to address unique and individualized inquires, provide guidance and services that support student success or needs, refer students to counseling when appropriate
This position is full-time and is located on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York.
What We Need:
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions. Strong organizational skills, ability to follow up, track multi-step decision-making, and bring processes to completion. Ability to quickly learn software programs, understand data relationships using multiple sources, and create meaningful reports both routine and ad hoc. Aptitude towards proactivity and independence while working closely in a team environment. Impeccable integrity with a clear sense of ethics, fairness, discretion, and personal responsibility. Ability to read and comprehend policies, guidelines, protocols and ask appropriate questions when dealing with outlier situations.
Must be able to work commencement weekend (in late May) and potentially other events that may be scheduled off business hours. An Associate's Degree with a minimum of 2 years related experience or the equivalent combination.
