OverviewThe Director provides leadership, strategic planning, operational management, budget planning, and monitoring of NYU Center for Multicultural Education and Programs (CMEP). The Director directs and manages programs (e.g., leadership development, mentorship, community-building, post-grad. pathways), education and learning opportunities, and resources to enhance and create an inclusive campus environment supportive of global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access (GIDBEA) through an intersectional approachcentering the needs of students of color and other historically marginalized student communities (e.g., first-generation, international, undocumented, LGBTQ+). They oversee education and training opportunities to members of the University community at our locations in Washington Square, Brooklyn, and globally, with a focus on supporting historically marginalized communities. Informed by data and research, the Director develops strategies for global student engagement and inclusive leadership with a focus on addressing the needs of historically marginalized student communities through a systemic and systematic approach that addresses programs, policies, resources, and the development of people. They advise OGI leadership on matters pertaining to the global needs of historically marginalized communities, with a focus on the student experience. This position is focused on advancing GIDBEA across the student experience at NYU and in doing so will partner with students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as Student Affairs and school-based Student Affairs counterparts.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Education:Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, or related field, or equivalent.
Required Experience:5+ years progressive experience working with historically marginalized college students (e.g., BIPOC, first-generation, international, undocumented, LGBTQ+, etc) in positions of increasing responsibilities pertaining to student leadership development and advisement, program and events development, and a strong record of organization/community building whether in Student Affairs, academic settings, community-based organizations, or NGOs, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated leadership experience working with a number of diverse groups and constituencies, representing a variety of identities, both on campus and within global communities. Proven track record for developing, managing and presenting global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access-related programs and education from an intersectional approach. Experience must include management of people, budget, and program development serving diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Experience:7+ years of relevant experience in higher education.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff/administrators, and alumni at all levels and to serve as an organizational leader. Strong knowledge of global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access-related trends and best practices in higher education in the US and globally and the ability to successfully communicate this to University community and external constituents. Ability to develop, implement, and interpret policies and procedures. Ability to offer consultation to colleagues surrounding global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access-related matters. Ability to present materials and adopt training materials for diverse audiences. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of presentation and budget management software. Experience developing strategic communications for a broad audience of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners. Proficiency with standard office software. Deep understanding of DEI within global and regional contexts.
