Break Through Tech works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel more underrepresented women into higher education and careers in tech -- with a particular emphasis on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and first- generation college going women and non-binary students. In New York, the program has already served over 3000 undergraduate women; facilitating, encouraging, and enabling a significant increase in the participation of women in higher education in fields related to technology.
Hosted by Cornell Tech, Break Through Tech AI is the new program from Break Through Tech on a mission to credential and fast-track undergraduate women into careers in the fastest-growing areas of tech: data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Developed with industry leaders, the Break Through Tech AI Program includes three high-level components that are considered critical for increasing the competitiveness and marketability of students pursuing AI/ML engineering roles: (1) skills-based training, (2) industry-relevant portfolios, and (3) mentorship, career coaching, and job placement support. Over the next four years, the Break Through Tech AI Program will expand nationwide to foster a diverse next generation of AI leaders who will build AI technologies that are fairer and more representative of our society.
Cornell Tech seeks an AI Studio Lead who will oversee the successful delivery of a customized version of the Studio Program at Cornell Tech in New York City. The AI Studio Lead will learn from best practices for corporate engagement and curriculum-specific partnerships to cultivate and manage relationships with NYC's leading companies to grow the scale of employer partnerships for the inaugural host site. Additionally, the AI Studio Lead will be responsible for managing the moving pieces of the program: matching program participants to company projects, recruiting Studio TAs, planning and executing in-person Maker Day events, and leveraging data to identify and codify best practices.
The AI Studio Lead will work closely with the Site Director, Career Development and Mentorship Lead, and Coordinator for Student Recruitment and Placement to ensure seamless collaboration across the program. The AI Studio Lead will report into the Director of Host Site Program, and work closely with the Break Through Tech AI National Program Office and Cornell Tech Studio team.
The AI Studio Lead must have strong organizational skills and experience in both relationship management and program execution, with the ability to set priorities and coordinate ongoing activities in parallel, manage competing demands, and provide timely responses to urgent issues. The ideal candidate has a flexible, entrepreneurial spirit, thrives in a startup environment, has the ability to connect academic culture and curriculum to real-world digital culture, and excels in development and management of both personal and corporate partnerships.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible 3-year term position with the possibility of renewal. This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends, particularly during the academic year. The responsibilities may be completed primarily remotely during the initial employment period and would be expected to work on location on our Cornell Tech NYC campus when instruction resumes in person.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
(1) Plan, lead, and oversee the execution of the Break Through Tech AI Studio Program within the New York City region (50%)
(2) Develop and manage corporate partnerships and solicit AI Studio project submissions from companies in the New York City region. (30%)
(3) Build and scale a practitioner engagement program. (20%)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree with 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination.
Passion for diversity in tech, education, and social impact.
Work in either an academic or corporate setting coordinating or managing relationships, event planning, or program development and implementation.
Must have very strong organizational skills and and program management skills with experience planning and executing large academic or corporate programs. Proven ability to operate in a self-directed fashion.
Proven ability to create, operationalize, and manage project plans and deadlines.
Experience and demonstrated success working in leadership roles in program development and execution in the areas of education, training, talent development, internship and/or mentorship programs, and/or student services.
Has the ability to communicate and "sell in" academic and corporate leaders to strategic opportunities for programmatic engagement.
Ability to communicate with, work effectively with, and maintain a positive rapport with students, professors and corporate leaders alike.
Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building qualities are essential in order to expand corporate engagement.
Must be able to take a leadership role as public spokesperson for the Break Through Tech AI Program in the local market.
