Oberlin College seeks a Director of Student Leadership, a professional charged with leading a campus-wide program focused on student leadership development. A successful person in this role will develop a robust event schedule while creating passive opportunities for student leadership development.
This Director of Student Leadership teaches a for-credit course on leadership. In addition, a successful professional will offer student employees in Student Affairs targeted leadership development opportunities. This position operates as part of a cohesive team within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement.
Student Leadership Development
- Liaise with national honor societies and manage campus programming in relation to those societies.
- Coordinate leadership programming for the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement, including the leadership guest speaker series and passive campus education.
- Plan and implement leadership development initiatives for all Office of Student Leadership and Involvement and Division of Student Affairs student employees.
- Assist the Student Senate and Director of Student Involvement in coordinating an annual Student Organization and Leadership Recognition and Awards event.
- Teach LEAD 220: Introduction to Leadership Development as a for-credit leadership development class on a semesterly basis.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs, in particular, the Career Development Center and Entrepreneurship, in regard to professional leadership training.
Administrative
- As needed, supervise student staff who assist with leadership development programming.
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Involvement, develop a student leadership and development framework for Presence.
Miscellaneous
- Coordinate a summer leadership book reading for staff in the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement.
- Attend programs, including night-time and weekend programming, as an agent of the institution.
- Participate in professional development organizations including, but not limited to, ACPA, NASPA, ACUI, NACA, GLCA, and COFHE.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration, Organizational Leadership, Business, or other related fields.
- Three (3+) or more years of progressive experience working in Student Affairs and, in particular, with campus programming and student organizations.
- Prior experience working with external honor societies or non-profit organizations.
- Prior experience supervising student staff.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work on several large projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.
- Significant experience in training, team building/facilitation, co-curricular event planning, assessment, and mentoring/coaching with diverse constituencies.
- Experience with budget management and financial systems, including problem-solving, collaboration, partnership development, and counseling/human relationships within a supervisory role.
- Experience with large-scale event planning.
- Ability to work as part of a team within an office and collaborate with campus partners.
