Job Description Summary: Professional Tutors provide support and guidance to students in a variety of coaching roles. Professional Tutors are active both in the classroom and in The Teaching and Learning Center in the Fred L. Mathews Library or the Niles campus, interacting with students in both individual and group situations.
Required Qualifications:
Associates Degree
Knowledge of basic material presented in college classes.
Knowledge of computer and office applications, particularly Microsoft Office, Google Docs and Drive, and other content platforms.
Strong public orientation and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
Exemplary student service abilities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
Attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or higher
Previous tutoring experience
Other Information: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide subject area tutoring services to students, faculty, and staff in one or more academic area: math, science, writing, accounting, business, or health services/nursing.
Develop and implement a plan for tutoring that addresses content area skill development, study skill strategies, and uses best practices in tutor subject area to enable students to become independent learners.
Record and submit detailed documentation of each tutoring session.
Assist the Coordinator in developing and maintaining relationships with key faculty.
Assist students with general computer and printer use.
Attend all tutor trainings, professional development opportunities, and staff meetings required by the Coordinator.
Assist the Coordinator with project-based tasks to serve SMC students or faculty/staff.
Meet with the Coordinator to establish professional development and position goals/objectives. Designate meeting dates with Coordinator to review and update goals/objectives.
Present a professional demeanor at all times in both personality/dress and provide exceptional customer service.
