POSITION DETAILS
Under thegeneral supervision of the Deputy Director the Assistant Director for Academic & Student Services(ADASS) of the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute (CUNY MSI) will provide general administrative support,including financial coordination to CUNY MSI and work closely with the Academic Director, Deputy Director,Assistant Director for Finance Operations & Finance, and Assistant Director for Outreach & Partnerships.
Working closely with the Academic Director and Deputy Director, the ADASS is responsible for the supervisionof the Archives & Library, Scholarship Program, Data, and Research units of CUNY MSI. The ADASS willdevelop programs and services tofoster success ofscholarship recipients topromote educational success. Inaddition, the ADASS will develop and maintain web-based and other communication resources andstrategiesto encourage persistence and completion within the overall student body and to assist individual studentcasesto resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral. Initiate, develop and deliver workshops,panels, presentations, and special programs that assist in development and design to support and emphasizesstudents??? growth and development in addition tocoordinating retention services withother departments such asbut not limited toLehman College advising center, Student Life,and Mexican Student Society. Keepabreast ofbest practices to improve retention, persistence and completion and encourage such practices by keystakeholders. As needed, propose institutional policies congruent with national best practices to improveretention, persistence and completion.
The Assistant Director for Academic & Student Services should be able toprepare complex statistical reportsand related charts andgraphs. Be able to draftgrant proposals, to procure funds from different City Agencies,and International Foundations. This person is responsible for the day-to-day running of [email protected] program, bypreparing andcoordinating the distribution ofinformational and recruitment materials; deliveringworkshops atNYC Highschools, CBOs, and the like topromote the scholarship. Inaddition, the ADASS is responsible forarchiving alldocuments following CUNY procedures, keeping records of internship sites, mentors, and hours ofservice andall other required responsibilities scholarship recipients. Inaddition, the ADASS is responsible tocreate and/orsubmit reports on differentgrants.
Other duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the Archives & Library, Scholarship Program, DATA and Research units.
- Assist in the supervision of the CUNY MSI staff.
- Assist in researching and writing for the various grants funded by the city, state and other sources. Assistant Director for Academic & Student Services (HEa)
- Demonstrate excellent managerial, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and writing skills.
- Should be able to present ideas and information to small and large groups and represent CUNY MSI as needed.
- Aid with major events such as Annual Conference, symposia, workshops, etc.
- Perform miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the institute???s operation.
- Provide information about scholarship recipients and coordinates with all Bursar offices.
- Improve Engagement of audience by capturing and analyzing the appropriate data/metrics, insights and best practices,and then acting on the information
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required, Master???s preferred

- Demonstrated experience in student management and development in a higher education environment with diverse student populations required
- Strong presentation, verbal and interpersonal skills to successfully work with and present to diverse stakeholders in both English and Spanish.
- Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity when dealing with sensitive documents.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational, writing and editing skills in English and Spanish.
- Experience supervising office staff; demonstrated ability to work as a team player.
- Ability to work well in student-centered, time-sensitive, dynamic and responsive office.
- Computer proficiency using standard office software programs and applications.
- Familiarity with CUNY First management of requisitions.
- Fully bilingual Spanish/English
