Job Duties:
The purpose of the position is to function as a Program Assistant for the Continuing Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Education Continuing Education (CE) events. This position is supervised by the Director of our CE departments and may also take direction from two Assistant Directors within the department. Duties include assisting in the planning, development and implementation of conferences, workshops, and symposia throughout the region as well as locally. Primary duties include responsibility for the organization, planning, implementation, tracking and monitoring of multiple program management activities, including conference arrangements, faculty travel arrangements, health professional credit awards, contracts, grants, correspondence, and timelines for the oversight of Eastern AHEC regional and statewide responsibilities. Position should function with minimal supervision and required to consult with the director as appropriate for clarification or additional information. Must be able to make independent decisions as outlined by the director regarding program and faculty cancelations along with the implementing the notification process for each cancelation. This position is also responsible for setting up and attending various planning meetings.
In addition, this position is primarily responsible for assisting in the planning, development and implementation of regularly scheduled series.

Organizational Unit Overview:
Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern AHEC) is a private, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with East Carolina University (ECU). The mission of Eastern AHEC, in accordance with the Statewide AHEC Program, is to meet the state's health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs in partnership with academic institutions, health care agencies, and other organizations committed to improving the health of the people of NC. AHEC educational programs and information services are targeted toward:
Improving the distribution and retention of health care providers, with a special emphasis on primary care and prevention;
Increasing the representation of minorities and disadvantaged populations in all health disciplines;
Enhancing the quality of care and improving health care outcomes;
Addressing the health care needs of underserved communities and populations.
Eastern AHEC functions in close collaboration with East Carolina University, and with the other NC University programs in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Medicine and Pharmacy, as well as other institutions of higher education. Eastern AHEC serves 23 counties in the eastern part of the state and is one of nine centers located in North Carolina. Governance is by a Board of Directors with representation from regional health care institutions, the community at large, and the community college system. Mental Health Education provides services to the five Area L counties as well as the 23 counties in our region.
The administrative structure of Eastern AHEC consists of an Executive Director and a Chief Administrative Officer. In addition to the administrative leaders, EAHEC has Directors for the following departments: Continuing Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy Education, Educational Support Services, Elizabeth City Office, Fiscal Services, Information & Technology Services, Library Services, Mental Health Education, Nursing and Allied Health Education, Pharmacy Education, Practice Support Center, Public Health & Student Services.
