STDT SVC ADVISOR 2 (Academic Program Assistant)Job Summary
Provides comprehensive, advanced academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In collaboration with the two principal program coordinators (undergraduate and graduate) and respective faculty advisor, administers varied, complex programmatic activities in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Act as an integral member of the CEE advising team and works collaboratively with the COE Undergraduate Office and the Office of Graduate Studies. Responsible for the complexities of administering the two programs, including but not limited to relevant department and university policies, procedures & resources, undergraduate course articulations with other colleges/universities, ABET requirements and COE requirements.
Reports directly to the CEE Department Manager and indirectly reports to the Director for Undergraduate Programs and Advising, COE Undergraduate Office, in the areas of professional development, advising resources, college-wide outreach, recruitment and retention programs, and best practices. Collects and reports student statistics for both program to the CEE chair.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD: Post for one month. Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.POSITION INFORMATION

WORK ENVIRONMENTMaintains specific advising hours in both programs. Work occasional overtime to attend meetings and college functions. May include evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
Experience advising and counseling undergraduate and graduate students in a university setting.
Experience maintaining confidentiality of student records and apply FERPA.
Skills to identify and determine appropriate level of advising or referral services needed for individual students. Experience providing triage and referrals for students in academic, financial or personal difficulty.
Analytical, critical thinking, creative and problem-solving skills to identify/recommend solutions to student and departmental issues and activities.
Management and organizational skills, including skills to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines, and to manage multiple tasks with concurrent and conflicting priorities, while maintaining close attention to detail.
Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives and to make public presentations, both formal and informal.
Skill in working independently, quickly and accurately and with close attention to detail under general direction.
Preferred:
Knowledge of general university, GE, college and major requirements, academic courses/programs/curriculum, educational alternatives, petitions and certifications, etc. Experience in interpreting and applying complex university policies and procedures.
Skill to prepare official major certifications, develop student academic plans, and guide/track students through academic planning.
Knowledge of admissions criteria for new students; knowledge of articulation agreements with other universities/colleges for transfer students, and the applicability of credit from other institutions.
Organizational and administrative skills to develop and implement new programs, material and/or procedures to better meet the undergraduate/graduate advising needs of the department.
