The Highlights This is a professional staff position, reporting to the Director of The Art School. The Art Lab Specialist position will manage the studio labs in the Photography and Media Art and Printmaking Areas, and will independently supervise the related facilities, technologies, and equipment to ensure that they are prepared to run smoothly and in a safe and efficient manner in collaboration with the faculty Area Heads. The Art Lab Specialist will supervise student assistants, will manage and organize Art School communications, and special projects with budget oversight and planning of the Photography and Media Art and Printmaking art-studio labs and technologies and facilities.
Is This You?- Responsible for managing budgets for course supplies, tools and equipment used in the Media Art, Photography darkrooms, and Printmaking studio-labs, as well as the Audio Visual (AV) check-out facility. Responsibilities include independent budget oversight, annual inventory, maintenance, and repairs in each area. The school's AV area consists of more than 3000 pieces of equipment and it requires student staff management and scheduling open for student services 6-7 days per week. Makes day-to-day decisions independently for these studio labs and related resources which includes the ordering of studio lab supplies working closely with external vendors. Maintains records on lab equipment purchases and warranties, arranges for repair or maintenance services from outside providers (as needed,) and serves as Art safety liaison to University's Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS).
- Familiarity and experience in the areas of photography and printmaking is required. The Art Lab Specialist implements and recommends purchases for and modifications to spaces to improve efficiency in the Photography and Media Art and Printmaking Areas. This includes leadership expectations including decision-making that involves software, equipment upgrades, modifications of studio spaces, oversight of the 15 film based photographic enlargers, a medium format drum photographic negative scanner, 39 Epson flatbed scanners which includes 35 mm photo negative scanning , photo dry mounting press, printmaking screen photographic exposure units and the Risograph printer. Oversight and management of data to create reports is required which include equipment inventory lists, studio safety protocols for the darkrooms, personal data such as annual faculty reviews, student staff hiring documents, visiting speakers' agreements, digital storage, and FAM management. Independent communications needs include internal email exchanges with Art faculty and students, and with staff in FO, DePaul Public Safety, IS, The DePaul Artist Collective (DAC), and with The Art in the Halls student art collection partners in the residence halls.
- Leads Special Projects in collaboration with The School Director, the Art Faculty and others on the School, College and University levels. Including management of marketing materials for example artwork exhibition label-design and organizing internally designed brochures, exhibition cards, program booklets, and fliers for distribution via the US Mail, inter campus mail and unit sharing with faculty and students. The special projects include, admissions events, the faculty Art on Campus initiatives, new technologies review for the photography and printmaking studios-labs working with IS, new managing needs for the dedicated studio facilities expansions, the Richardson Art Gallery opening events with Chartwell's, the annual High School out reach initiative and our new Alumni outreach exhibition project.

Your Education- BA, BS, BFA, Art Minor (or equivalent) required. MFA, MS, or MA in an art related area desirable. Two to three years of art or related lab management and hands-on experience preferred.
Managerial Responsibilities- Independently manages the Photography and Media Art and Printmaking art-studio labs and technologies and facilities. This includes the Photography Darkroom labs, and Audio Visual (AV) Checkout facilities, the related budgets and student staff. Manages The Art School Communications internally and externally, scheduling student staff coverage in these areas to meet in-class as well as evening, weekend, and event access to these specific studio labs in these areas.
Other Skills & Abilities Required- Knowledge and expertise of studio arts with experience in budget management, film darkrooms, printmaking, and media art applications, technologies, procedures, and related studio labs maintenance.
- Knowledge and adaptability to new and changing technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, writing and organizational skills.
- Ability to independently interface with other areas across the university, particularly IS, FO and Environmental Health and Safety.
- Ability to work independently under time limits, and to anticipate and plan ahead for calendar deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Excel for Mac.
- Proficiency with Mac computers is required.

Workday: Main Art Office hours are M-F 9AM-5PM. Studio Hours of M-H 10:30AM-6:30PM may be needed when classes are in session, depending on the specific studio courses offered each quarter.
