The Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment (FASE) is a central administrative student services department within the Division of Enrollment. Position Summary
Financial Aid Counselors support Cornell's diverse, world-class students and their families with specialized knowledge, insights, and guidance regarding financial aid application processes, aid offers, college financing options, and other student financial services.
Reporting to the Associate Director for Counseling and collaborating closely with other members of the FASE team, Financial Aid Counselor responsibilities include providing excellent and timely student support, evaluating aid application materials, performing accurate need analysis calculations, making aid eligibility determinations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge/skills/training, utilizing appropriate professional judgement, and supporting team-oriented goals.
Financial Aid Counselors have an in-depth understanding of core student service lifecycle concepts such as admissions, financial aid, registration and records, and student accounts and will meet with students and parents to discuss the financial aid process and educational opportunities, including how aid packages are prepared, and how other resources (such as outside scholarships) are incorporated into aid awards, and address questions and concerns. Counselors connect regularly with students and their families by email, phone, video call, and in-person. Counselors review aid applications and supporting documentation, perform need analysis, assign cost of attendance budgets, determine eligibility for various student aid programs, and compile student aid packages consistent with all applicable policies, laws, regulations, and procedures. This position collaborates closely with FASE leadership and other university stakeholders, to ensure outstanding operational effectiveness, exceptional service to students, and impeccable compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional laws, regulations.

This position is a hybrid role based in Ithaca, NY. No relocation assistance is provided for this position. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments in a proactive manner.
Proven ability to analyze requirements and meet deadlines.
Must be well-organized and attentive to details.
Must be able to continuously expand one's knowledge about technology and methods supportive of business processes.
Experience in a customer service, student service, or similar professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
2 or more years working in or closely with a college/university financial aid/scholarships office.
Knowledge of financial aid software systems, federal aid regulations, or institutional need analysis concepts.
Demonstrated experience working effectively with moderately complex systems and business processes.
Experience using PeopleSoft, ImageNow, CSS Profile, IDOC, or Workday.
Fluency in English and a second language.
