This is a term position that is expected to run from August 2022 to July 2023.
NOTE: A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.
This full-time term position reports to the Director of Student Services and its primary focus is to gain experience in the field of Athletics Student Services. The Assistant Student Services Coordinator will work closely with the Student Services Coordinators to monitor the academic progress of student-athletes for assigned sports in the Department of Athletics. In addition, the Assistant Student Services Coordinator will be expected to refer student-athletes to campus resources and monitor study halls/tutorial services.

Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 16 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 10 women's teams, a total of 351 student athletes), 14 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve on Committees as assigned by Supervisor
- Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of assigned sports and providing academic counseling and support services as needed under the guidance of Student Services Staff
- Check classes for attendance
- Assist in tracking student-athletes' compliance with NCAA academic eligibility requirements and progress towards Vanderbilt University undergraduate degree requirements
- Help student-athletes learn time management skills to assist in balancing the demands of academics and athletics
- Serve as a sounding board for student-athletes to help them deal with issues surrounding the transition from home life to college
- Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families as requested alongside Student Services Staff
- Refer student-athletes to appropriate campus resources as needed.
- Collect and report academic data as needed (e.g., SEC for Academic Honor Roll, Vice Chancellor/Athletics Director, Provost's Office, Board of Trust, etc.)
- Monitor evening study halls as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services
- Seek intentional professional development opportunities for continued growth
- Assist in upholding the departmental textbook policy
- Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes in terms of upholding integrity, cooperation, self-reflection and stressing the importance and benefits of education
- Work in a cooperative, team atmosphere to support student-athletes' needs
- Comply with all NCAA and SEC rules and regulations
- Work in conjunction with the department's compliance office to stay current on all rules and regulations to ensure we are operating with the highest level of integrity
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is necessary .
- Master's Degree by start date is preferred .
- Previous experience with academics in an NCAA Division I athletics program is preferred .
- Knowledge of NCAA and SEC rules and regulations is necessary .
- Must possess attention to detail and keep accurate records.
- Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
