Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.Germanna is seeking to hire a part time Career Coach to assist high schools, students and their families in the county of Culpeper as they prepare for career training/education. The Career Coach plans and executes outreach and career/educational planning activities in an assigned area high school for the College. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Development this position identifies and participates in outreach and career planning activities for high school juniors, seniors and parents. The Career Coach serves as an ambassador for the College and cultivates strong relationships with prospective students, parents, high school personnel and area employers. This position advises and counsels high school students ⓠand other student populations, as needed, on post high school graduation goals, specifically exploring the benefits of community college enrollment through in person, via e-mail communication, and phone engagement. This position coordinates on-campus tours and programs targeted towards prospective students, parents. In addition, the position coordinates the ongoing strategic communications to prospective students, as well as maintains a case management system to report outcomes to the VCCS and the College. The position supports Dual Enrollment and Independent Dual Enrollment students to identify and participate in GCC educational opportunities. Career Advisors offer a one-stop service that facilitates a student from application to enrollment in courses at Germanna. This position works closely with departments across the College and organizations within the community.To be successful in this position one should be able to do the following:· Excellent public speaking, written communication, and interpersonal skills· Ability to travel to area high school to perform duties· Ability to work independently and as part of a team· Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population· Knowledge of career assessment, career and educational pathway planning· Ability to understand and interpret college policies and academic placement procedures· Ability to handle confidential information· Ability to advise and assist students with career and academic decision making· Ability to effectively collaborate with school personnel, as well as community representatives and employers· Ability to maintain accurate and timely record-keeping and reportingEmployees must be able to work with diverse colleagues, students, and community members; and facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.This position is open until filled with a first review of applications on May 24, 2022.Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of Germanna Community College.
