Job Description:
The primary purpose of the Assistant Director position is to serve all Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) students college-wide; to manage assigned financial aid processes across the college; analyze and comply with financial aid statutes and regulations; develop procedures to efficiently process student aid; communicate with internal and external customers of the college's financial aid department; and supervise student employees. This position is located on the Wadena campus.

Responsibilities:
· Live the mission, vision and values of M State to ensure a positive experience for all students and stakeholders. Service to M State students and stakeholders is a core component of the position and work responsibilities.
· Advise students and their families on the types of student financial aid available including information on the application process, budgeting, financial planning, and debt management.
· Recognition of broad and varied professional responsibilities which include but are not limited to support for campus and college operations such as: front desk coverage, registration events, Spartan Welcome Days, Commencement, this is not an exhaustive list.
· Develop and coordinate general form letters and other printed material needed in the operation of the financial aid office.
· Assure the accurate and timeliness of reports to federal, state, agency, and college authorities.
· Attendance at appropriate workshops and conferences.
Required Qualifications:
- Two-year Associate degree from an accredited college.
- Ability to interpret the complexities of federal and state regulations governing financial aid programs, interpret and explain college, state, and federal policies that impact students.
- Demonstrated computer skills sufficient to work with multiple software programs such as Office 365, student record management system, and electronic filing with an ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with computer software applications and systems with the ability to create business correspondence, reports, presentations, plan and organize multiple events/activities
- Able to work evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver's license and able travel to represent the college as needed.
- Public speaking skills sufficient to present information clearly to large groups.
- Human relations/customer service skills with the ability to actively listen to and understand individuals' needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds.
- Problem solving skills with the ability to set priorities, reason analytically, determine alternative solutions, and analyze and interpret information with a high degree of accountability and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and collaboratively in a team environment; (this list is not all inclusive).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a business or human service-related field.
- Experience using ISRS student record system.
- Minimum of three years of financial aid work experience in a college setting.
- Experience working with student record systems, project management and specialty software such as DARS, ImageNow, customer relations management systems, and Office 365.
- Knowledge of available higher education and community resources in order to recommend the most appropriate referral.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development theory and varied Able to develop close working relationships college-wide, especially the Academic and Student Affairs division (particularly Counselors, Social Workers, Campus Resource Specialists, the Support Center, Enrollment, Admissions, Accessibility Resources, Financial Aid, Records) and faculty, student workers, and college administrators.
- A thorough understanding of federal and state financial aid programs and regulations.
- Knowledge of needs analysis, federal and state methodology, aid awarding, and the financial aid delivery system.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with support agencies, educational facilities, and individuals in the community on behalf of students and the institution.
