GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Santos Manuel Student Union Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion, the Santos Manuel Student Union First People’s Center Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing programs and initiatives to meet the diverse needs for the First Peoples’/Native American students on campus as well as supervising student staff, managing the FPC, and collaborating with campus partners to directly support the success of First Peoples/Native American students at CSUSB.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinate all programs, services, and administrative functions for the FPC
- Supervise student staff and manage the FPC
- Promote and assist in the development of policies, procedures and programs that assure the well-being and development of our Native American identifying students, affirm human dignity, and champion cultural pluralism across campus
- Provide operational leadership for the coordination of multicultural and international related co-curricular programming, including but not limited to Summer First Peoples’ Coyotes Rising, California Native American Day, Native American Heritage Month, San Manuel Pow Wow, CommuniTEA programs, semesterly programs for the FPC, etc.
- Support the associate director with assessment of all programs including developing annual report for the department
- Coordinate and advance the dialogue around race, gender, and sexual orientation through campus programs and conversation. Develop and maintain a robust team of trained student and staff facilitators, facilitate programming in and out of the classroom, and engage in education and training
- Support campus initiatives and build relationships on behalf of the FPC as they relate to the needs of the First Peoples/Native Americans on campus and in the community
- Support the associate director with fiscal management for the FPC including preparing the annual budget, reviewing and approving quarterly budget requests, and monitoring the FPC budget
- Represents the FPC on committees, both on and off campus, to advance the needs of First Peoples/Native American students
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise student assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related program is required; 1 - 2 years of experience working with students is required, ideally in a student development or advising capacity.
Student supervision experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
First Aid and CPR/AED certification required (certifications may be obtained within first month of employment).
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
