POSITION SUMMARY: The Head Coach, Women’s Rowing is responsible for all aspects of the University of Tulsa’s NCAA Division I Women’s Rowing Program. This position will perform as a positive role model for student-athletes in an upbeat environment which strives for academic and athletic excellence and will establish a professional relationship with student-athletes, staff, alumni, and the general public to promote the university, and its athletics program.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
- Coach the women’s rowing program, ensuring the development of a quality, competitive athletics program and support of the individual educational goals of student-athletes
- Schedule and supervise all team practice sessions and intercollegiate competitions within the program
- Recruit highly skilled student-athletes for the women’s rowing team that are in line with the University Mission
- Work closely with athletic training, academic and student services, and athletic performance staffs to monitor the progress of student-athletes
- Manage sport program budget in accordance with university and departmental policies and procedures
- Coordinate necessary administrative duties and community/campus service events
- Develop and implement programs to assist student-athletes in their transition into the college environment
- Work with Admissions and International Admissions staffs in the in this student-athlete recruiting process
- Provide opportunities for academic assistance to student-athletes if required and monitors the academic progress of each participating student-athlete in women’s rowing program
- Assume responsibility for the retention and matriculation process for student-athletes in their athletic and academic endeavors
- Develop a competent and effective coaching staff by recruiting and hiring qualified applicants, providing guidance on departmental or University policies and coaching philosophy, encouraging professional development through participation in coaching decisions and recruiting activities, making coaching assignments based upon qualifications, supervising coaching activities, and evaluating performance
- Protect the integrity of the women’s rowing program and the reputation of the intercollegiate athletics program of the University by ensuring that recruiting activities, student-athlete eligibility determination, scholarships and financial aid programs, scheduled practice sessions, and related activities governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations as well as applicable conference rules and University policies
- Participate in fundraising activities, as necessary, thus enhancing the ability of the University to meet established athletic fund-raising goals by actively participating in fund-raising events and promotional activities for intercollegiate athletics, as well as serving as chairperson or co-chairperson of fundraising committees or as a spokesperson for specific fund-raising campaigns, and/or sponsored sports-related special events for the women’s rowing program
- Contribute to the overall success of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics, or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of collegiate coaching experience or equivalent; excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills; strong self-starter; knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes, faculty, coaches and administrators
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree; 5 years of collegiate coaching experience, or equivalent
