Oberlin College’s Career Development Center helps students and recent alumni identify and achieve meaningful career objectives that build upon their liberal arts education and experiences. We offer group and individual advising, as well as experiential opportunities that complement all students’ learning and experiences during their time at Oberlin. The Career Development Center works in close collaboration with the Center for Engaged Liberal Arts which includes offices focused on undergraduate research, global education, community-based service and learning, and fellowships.
It is an exciting time to be part of the Career Development Center with our work around career education, inclusive excellence, and experiential learning. We seek an experienced, collaborative, and motivated Manager of Alumni & Parents Engagement Programs to join our team. The Manager will positively contribute to the Center’s mission by developing and implementing a comprehensive and ongoing employer and alumni engagement strategy with the goal of increasing the number and quality of internships and employment opportunities for Oberlin students. This individual will identify and cultivate relationships with existing and future employers, alumni, and parents across multiple industries, as well as campus partners, to deliver high-impact experiential learning opportunities for students. Position title and scope will be determined based on level of experience and skills.
The ideal candidate will have strong relationship-building skills and an understanding of employer engagement, hiring and recruitment practices, alumni relations, and/or community outreach. Importantly, the individual must be committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all that they do. The Manager will enrich the student experience and employability by developing innovative outreach methods to build strong connections with potential employers, alumni, parents, and community members.
Responsibilities:
- Develop policies and procedures to streamline all funded internship programs
- Manage all aspects of the Winter Term, Junior Practicum, and summer funded internship programs
- Manage the various funds and project allocation for new funding to meet the demands of internships
- Review applications and match students with the various restricted and unrestricted endowed funds and gifts.
- Recruit CDC staff and possibly other campus partners to evaluate summer internship funding applications
- Collaborate with Associate Director for Employer and Alumni Engagement, Communications & Marketing Coordinator, Data Analyst, and Donor Relations team to create an online Internship Booklet. Co-author introductory letter, select student testimonials and provide statistical information regarding internship career industries and geographic locations
- Collaborate with senior Development staff on fundraising for summer internships. Summarize internship program data, provide recommendations for internship program endowed fund and gift descriptions, and identify areas of unmet student need
- Reach out to alumni, parents, and other employers, provide information about the internship program, and encourage them to post-summer and Winter Term internships
- In collaboration with the Controller’s Office, process interns’ funding awards
- Identify and recruit alumni and parents in diverse industries (advertising, publishing, sports/media, startups/social entrepreneurship, technology, arts & entertainment, nonprofit, education, etc.) for Winter Term internships
- Develop proposals for Winter Term internships and experiential career learning projects annually
- Develop policies, intern selection process for Winter Term internship sponsors.
- Develop an e-Portfolio final reflective project highlighting the student’s experience and skills learned. Submit grades to the Registrar’s Office.
- Collaborate with career advisors to advertise Winter Term and grant-eligible summer internships to the various career communities.
- Collaborate with employer outreach and marketing staff to develop a marketing strategy for Winter Term internships, study courses, and the Junior Practicum program. Provide content for marketing (posters, brochures, handouts, and email communications). Review and approve all final marketing materials
- Conduct internship application workshops and Winter Term internship information sessions Represent the Career Development Center at the Winter Term Fair. Meet with students studying away and with other students with questions about these internship programs Conduct orientation meetings for interns
- Review Winter Term, Junior Practicum and summer funded internship programs for best practices from colleagues working at similar liberal arts schools annually
- Bachelor’s degree required with three or more years of experience in career development, employer or alumni relations, recruiting, sales, or a similar position; or a Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs, business, non-profit management, human resource management, or a related field with five or more years of related experience
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and develop relationships with multiple constituencies including, employers, alumni, parents, students, and campus partners required.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience with topics directly related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Comfortable working with computer technology and online web-based services
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently when necessary; well-organized and detail-oriented
- Well-developed skills of team collaboration, coalition building, and operation in interdisciplinary working groups required
- Strong leadership in developing relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, international origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and/or other aspects of human diversity
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends (for special events) required.
