TCCâ™s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.Tidewater Community College invites applications for Dean of Student Life and Conduct / Campus Dean.POSITION SUMMARY:The Dean of Student Life and Conduct will be responsible for fostering and implementing a vision which contributes to a supportive campus community that promotes the well-being of students; ensuring diversity and inclusion are advanced across all Student Life areas; overseeing all aspects of Student Life and Student Conduct college-wide; setting and carrying out disciplinary policy as outlined in the Student Handbook, VCCS policy and state and federal regulations; promoting student events and activities; and communicating with the student body.This position ensures that all student programming aligns with the mission and vision of the college; establishes and implements policies and procedures as they relate to student events and activities; works closely with staff and students to develop and implement a wide array of opportunities to support student learning; promotes the development of student leaders; and creates an environment which enhances student engagement. Responsible for the direction, management and supervision of the campusâ™s administration.FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESEngage a diverse student body and staff in fostering a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes connection to campus life, while maintaining high levels of customer service for students and campus partners.Enhance opportunities for students to participate fully in the college experience by providing information, services, events, programs, and involvement opportunities that facilitate responsible life choices and promote self and community awareness.Serve as an advocate for students and help lead efforts to provide a college-wide climate that advances student success, personal development and collaborative student learning experiences.Responsible for overseeing programs and activities that support the educational experience and enhance student life and engagement on campus.Serve as an internal resource to the college on matters related to student engagement, development, and leadership.Maintain current knowledge of federal and state laws in higher education.Provide leadership for the development and implementation of student activities and leadership programs related marketing and promotional items.Ensure the creation and ongoing updates of materials describing student life and student conduct policies, procedures, and programs, including student handbooks, newsletters, and manuals.Collaborate with other departments including enrollment, advisement, retention, student support and public safety.Serve on pertinent campus and college committees.Develop and maintain the college master calendar for student activities and promotes campus programming through various marketing strategies.Serve as chief SGA advisor; Masterâ™s degree in Educational Administration, Student Personnel Administration or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university; doctorate preferred.Progressively increasing responsibilities demonstrating integrative leadership for student activities, student life and student conduct, or management level administration in student services.Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.Proven leadership in a large, complex organizational setting, preferably within a community college.Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and issues affecting student services in higher education.Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to student conduct and student services.Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and student development.Ability to coordinate the divisionâ™s service programs with other college divisions and offices so as to be responsive to the needs of a diverse student population.Proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to tolerate and flourish in an environment characterized by multiple complex factors, competing priorities, ambiguous situations, and resource challenges.Ability to supervise and evaluate assigned staff while building a highly effective working team.Excellent skills in oral and written communication.Ability to interpret and apply college policies and procedures; ability to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.Knowledge of and ability to utilize administrative applications of information technology.Demonstrated skill in managing budgets, equipment, and other institutional resources.
