The Graduate School of Journalism at U.C. Berkeley is widely regarded as one of the top journalism programs in the United States. The School offers a two-year Masters of Journalism degree to an enrollment of about 120 students at a time. All students spend their first semester in an intensive course that teaches accurate, responsible deadline reporting and writing. During their remaining three semesters, students may specialize in print, video, documentary, photojournalism, audio or multimedia. The school's emphasis is on mastering a wide variety of techniques while learning the highest standards of responsible and enterprising journalism. There are 9 permanent faculty members in the School and many working journalists who serve as adjuncts and visiting lecturers. The School employs an average of 25 temporary and career staff members.

Evaluates the effectiveness of the recruitment program within the context of the school's vision and mission, admissions and enrollment goals, financial aid & scholarship objectives, size of applicant pool, acceptance rate, and graduation rate from the University.
Responsible for regular reporting and analysis of School admissions and outreach performance and outcomes to the School Executive Committee and central campus offices.
Active collaboration with School management in the design and implementation of admissions programs.
Staff lead on School Admissions Committee.
Participates in School and campus committee meetings and represents the School on campus and with external constituencies in student admissions, recruitment and advising concerns.
Maintains professional skills and knowledge.
Oversees the design, planning and implementation of the Master of Journalism application review and selection process.
Oversees review process of applications for admission.
Proposes new procedures via School Admissions Committee.
Responsible for planning and implementation of the writing and interview testing process.
Coordinates interview process.
In conjunction with faculty leadership, develops rubrics for screening and assessing qualifications of candidates.
Prepares strategy and plans for recruitment drive programs.
Collaborates with the dean and faculty on overall strategies for finding and recruiting top candidates for the Master of Journalism degree including marketing strategies to prospective students and partners.
Coordinates the design and implementation of digital marketing, cutting-edge website and social media branding and outreach.
Designs annual and multi-annual strategy, plans, implementation, and measures of effectiveness for recruitment campaigns.
Sets recruitment goals and campaigns each academic year.
Proposes, administers and monitors budget expenditures and adjusts as needed to ensure goals are met and allocated budgets are adhered to.
Plans and leads annual calendar of events including Open House, Spring Welcome Visit, information sessions, and other special events for prospective students, this includes in-person and online events.
Develops strategic in-person and remote outreach and travel plans to participate in conferences, colleges, and graduate fairs that support the School vision.
Virtually and in-person, manages prospective student tours, class visits, appointments with faculty and staff and connection opportunities with current students and alumni.
Oversees all communications and data collection of prospective students.
Responsible for ensuring design and production of high-quality brochures, videos and other collateral material for prospective student visitors and for distribution at conferences, events or online.
Provides guidance on the most difficult and complex admissions cases.
Communicates and collaborates with faculty to determine appropriate outcomes.
Leads the work of temporary staff and/or student employees to support recruitment and outreach efforts.
Evaluates effectiveness of the MJ admissions and recruitment program and makes recommendations for recruitment strategy to enhance yield.
Responsible for tracking industry trends that enhance admissions results.
Ensures diversity recruitment is a core goal in all outreach efforts, and collaborates with faculty, staff and dean in developing strategies for increasing enrollment of under-represented groups.
Represents School in specific areas of expertise and provides guidance to other student services staff in that area of expertise.
Serves as a key member of the student affairs team.
Participates in year-round School planning, events, and initiatives.
Participates in travel to approx 3-6 industry conferences per year and/or partner universities to participate in program recruitment.
Evaluates and recommends fellowship and scholarship awards for admitted applicants-based award criteria and an assessment of candidate qualifications and characteristics.

Collaborates with School financial and advancement staff to determine available funding sources and appropriate uses.

Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.
