Job Summary: | The Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber provides routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Wisconsin-Madison students. This includes performing a comprehensive mental health history and diagnostic interview, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, and making therapeutic decisions including prescribing medications within the scope of state licensure. Collaborates with and provides consultation to other treatment providers including mental health and medical providers. Monitors patient outcomes and initiates changes in treatment plan based on patient response. The provider must demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations, follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA, and maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. Duties will be performed under the supervision of the Director of Psychiatry. The Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber maintains a collaborative relationship with UHS Staff Psychiatrists. |
Responsibilities: | Provides health care services under a collaborative care agreement with physician. Educates patients, develops and evaluates care plans, and prescribes medications and treatments in support of patient health and well-being. - 30% Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems
- 10% Develops, implements, collects data, and evaluates primary health care services as directed by individual care plans
- 20% Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations
- 20% Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
- 10% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
- 10% Performs mental status examinatons, assesses and manages safety risk

Education: | Required Master's Degree Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Masters in Nursing, or Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Masters in Nursing, or Nurse Practitioner |
Qualifications: | Minimum of one year of experience in a mental health setting required.
Minimum of one year experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner required.
Experience working with a young adult patient population or in a college health or mental health setting preferred.

License/Certification: | Required APNP - Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber Licensed in the state of WI or eligible to be licensed by start date. |
