THE DEPARTMENT:The Office of Student Life empowers students towards success through involvement in co-curricular engagement, pathways, and leadership development initiatives. Recognizing that student involvement results in improved academic performance, persistence, and an increased sense of belonging, the Office of Student Life seeks to engage our diverse student population through intentional and transformative culturally relevant programs, services, and events. We advocate and empower students toward cocurricular experiences that encourage self-discovery and prepare them for life after college.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Development
- Responsible for the coordination and implementation of a comprehensive leadership development program that includes the BroncoLEAD program, the annual Bronco Student LEADership Conference, the Bronco Student LEADership Awards, the Black Men of Excellence program, Femtor Leadership program, and other culturally relevant leadership initiatives.
- Design a leadership development curriculum that focuses on providing students with opportunities to gain personal, organizational, leadership, and career readiness skills to effectively assume and fulfill leadership roles on campus, in the community and post-graduation.
- Develop digital badging and co-curricular pathways to assist students' success and career readiness.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop and maintain student success support services and programs that strive to reduce the achievement gap and increase retention and graduation rates of CPP students.
- Partner with campus constituents that provide leadership and mentorship initiatives that support student success.
- Advise student organizations as needed. Assist them with program development, planning, and implementation as needed.
- Develop assessment methods and tools consistent with the CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education) Leadership Education and Development standards to align priorities, programs and initiatives with best practices.
- Research best practices around culturally relevant leadership programs that will align with the divisional goals and priorities and the University Strategic Plan.
- Support the development of programs offered by the Dean of Students cluster, the Division of Student Affairs, and other University constituents that affect the well-being of all students as assigned.
Administrative Coordination
- Provide guidance, organization, and oversight to the Leadership Development programs and initiatives.
Provide leadership and guidance to the Assistant Coordinator and student assistants. Provide recommendations to the Director on the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of the Assistant Coordinator and student assistants.
- Counsel and advise students on concerns related to interpersonal issues, academic concerns, career interests and identity development. Refer students to appropriate services for additional guidance, support, or intervention.
- Maintain thorough knowledge, interpretation, and enforcement of university policies and procedures related to the mission and goals of Student Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
Training & Assessment
- Design, coordinate and facilitate workshops, seminars, and lectures relating to trends in Leadership Development.
- Train student organizational leaders on university compliance policies regarding budgets, student organizational policies, and programming guidelines and best practices.
- Train administrators, staff, and advisors on best practices and policies that apply to Leadership Development.
- Collaborate with campus departments to conduct programs to outreach and inform the campus community on trends and issues related to leadership development, career readiness and student development.
- Assist with developing, planning, implementing OSL Student staff training, and others as needed.
- Develops annual goals, assessment plans and reports for Leadership Development that align with Departmental and Divisional goals and priorities.
- Conduct regular and on- going assessments of programs and services to ensure that the work is aligned with the university and divisional strategic plans and meeting the needs of the campus community.
Fiscal Responsibilities
- Provide sound fiscal administration of the programming budget, including State, ASI, Foundation, and grant funds. Responsible for the annual budget projections.
- Work collaboratively with Administrative Analyst for fiscal monitoring and processes.
- Responsible for reconciling monthly procurement card statements.
- Support fundraising opportunities for Leadership Development in collaboration with University Advancement as applicable.
Engagement & Marketing
- Support campus outreach events that align with the mission of the Leadership Development.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop, design, and conduct programs to outreach and inform the campus community on trends and issues related to CPP students and the community.
- Responsible for the development and production of the marketing materials for the Leadership Development, including brochures, website, and social media to promote the mission and purpose of the departmental area programs, services, and events.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Serve as a contributing member to departmental and campus wide committees, programs and initiatives that align with the mission of the Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers.
- Attends and participates in all staff meetings, retreats, and trainings for , the Dean of Students cluster, and the Division of Student Affairs as assigned.
- Serve as a campus protest monitor.
- Involvement in professional organizations that align with the position.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
- Four (4) years of professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems
- (A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience OR a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in the relevant field may be substituted for two (2) years of professional experience).
General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management, advanced statistical and research methods; ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization is required. Finalists will be required to submit verification of upper division coursework (i.e., transcripts).
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
- A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.
