Viterbo University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Dean of Student Community. Under the general direction of the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students the Assistant Dean of Student Community leads a team that successfully provides a quality residential living-learning environment, implements opportunities for student engagement, supports a dynamic campus dining experience, and furthers the student-centered, Catholic, Franciscan mission and vision of the University. The Assistant Dean will also be actively engaged in student experiences including but not limited to orientation, housing safety and occupancy, meal plan management and Dining Services support, student conduct, billing, and other administrative responsibilities. This is a permanent, full-time,12-month position.
Responsibilities:
SUPERVISION
- Includes supervision of the Director of Dining Services, Director of Orientation and Engagement, 2 Residence Life Area Coordinators; and Residence Life Administrative Assistant as well as mentorship of the two Residence Life graduate interns.
- Coordinates recruiting, selecting, and training of direct reports and facilitates recruitment and hiring of graduate interns. Monitors work performance for accuracy and completeness. Ensure compliance of staff with established policies and procedures.
- Evaluates the performance of assigned staff and supports intentional development efforts.
- Develops and supports a cohesive team and functional area processes to best serve our students and employees.
- Assists the Residence Life Area Coordinators with on-campus student conduct, conduct hearings, and upholding the Viterbo University Code of Student Conduct; serves as the appeal authority for both on-campus and off-campus student conduct cases.
ADMINISTRATION
- Provides guidance and support related to strategic planning, assessment, student surveys, and goal setting.
- Assists direct reports on all matters related to residence life, dining, orientation, and community engagement efforts.
- Oversees the contractual components of student meal plans.
- Serves as the primary administrator for Adirondack Solutions' The Housing Director housing and Residence Life management software. Coordinates room assignments, changes, single room requests, reassignments, and consolidations for residence facilities during fall and spring semester in conjunction with Area Coordinators.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with Physical Plant staff on major projects and initiatives.
- Coordinates housing and meal plan contract release processes.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students in action planning and report preparation related to occupancy, housing, and meal plan reports.
- Provides budget oversight for Residence Life and budget support for Orientation and Engagement.
- Maintains the Residence Life website in conjunction with Residence Life staff.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Dean of Student Wellbeing in leading an annual review of policies, procedures, the Student Handbook and Code of Student Conduct, and other related documents.
CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS
- Collaborates with residence life, campus safety, student affairs, academics staff, and other colleagues and campus collaborators to support students.
- Cultivates and maintains strong working relationships with campus and community partners, including but not limited to Campus Safety and Security, Admissions, Physical Plant, Athletics, Academics, Multicultural Student Support, FSPA, Counseling Services, and various local businesses and nonprofits.
- Serve on relevant university committees, including but not limited to CARE (Campus Assessment, Referral and Education Team), Colleague Steering Committee,
- Coordinates summer camp and conference communications.
- Coordinates the President's Holiday Dinner and the semesterly Late Night Breakfasts.
CRISIS SUPPORT AND STUDENT CONDUCT
- Assists the Residence Life Area Coordinators with on-campus student conduct, conduct hearings, and upholding the Viterbo University Code of Student Conduct; serves as the appeal authority for both on-campus and off-campus student conduct cases.
- Serves an administrator of the University's Maxient conduct management system.
- Oversees professional staff duty rotation, making sure work is evenly distributed.
- Collaborates with Area Coordinators and other Student Life staff to respond to incidents and emergencies quickly, effectively and efficiently.
OTHER
- Carry out other responsibilities and duties as delegated or assigned.

Qualifications: Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field required. Must have strong communication, administrative and supervisory skills and a minimum of 4 years of experience in higher education. Proficiency or ability to acquire proficiency in relevant software programs required. This position is security-sensitive and requires a comprehensive background check.
