Job Description:The Public Health Registered Nurse will be responsible for the overall management of public health programs and response at College of the Holy Cross. The Public Health Registered Nurse will work with various groups on campus to protect and improve the health of our student community, prevent injuries and disease, control infectious disease, and promote healthy lifestyles. This individual will also be responsible for responding to any infectious disease outbreaks on campus in collaboration with Health Services, including but not limited to the management of COVID-19.
Additionally, the Public Health Registered Nurse will provide high-quality clinical care to the students enrolled at the College of the Holy Cross.
The Public Health Registered Nurse will report to the Director of Health Services.
Major Areas of Responsibility- Public Health Responsibilities
- Design and monitor emergency response plans to ensure safety in the community related to public health matters, including but not limited to: COVID-19, mosquito borne disease, meningitis, measles, mumps, pertussis, MRSA, and norovirus.
- As necessary, collaborate with campus officials to monitor and address risks related to significant diseases, which may include but is not limited to:
- Monitoring rates of transmission within the college community, locally, and globally.
- Coordination and management of the College's health operations team, which includes leading meetings with stakeholders across campus
- Oversee student testing and contact tracing, as necessary
- Oversee Isolation and Quarantine space, as necessary
- Assist the Director of Health Services with reviewing and implementing safety-related policies designed to reduce the transmission and impact of these conditions
- Serve as the Medical Lead on the College's Emergency Response Team
- Liaise with state and local Departments of Public Health during outbreaks of infectious disease.
- Collaborate with Health Services to respond to infectious disease outbreaks in a variety of means, including reviewing vaccination status of students, developing risk mitigation plans, and creating campus communication strategies.
- Use data to inform and develop protocols and policies on campus to prevent injuries and disease and control infectious disease.
- Coordinate with a variety of groups and departments on campus to spearhead education and communication efforts in order to promote healthy lifestyles, safety on campus, and prevent injuries and disease
- Nursing Responsibilities
- Deliver professional nursing for members of the Holy Cross Community, including students, Jesuit residents, and employees injured on duty; this includes acute primary care, urgent and emergency care. Administer nursing care and treatments as directed by the physician, nurse practitioner.
- Participates actively in the revision of Nursing protocols, policies and Medicat.
- Maintain professional credentials.
- Attend periodic meetings and participate actively in committees as appointed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:- Must hold a current Registered Nursing license in MA
- Experience in public health administration, community public health and/or epidemiology.
- Experience with college aged community members.
- Acquires the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to practice in the area of college health
- Partakes in ongoing educational activities related to clinical knowledge and professional skills
- Takes part in lifelong learning to keep abreast of the diverse health issues affecting college students
- Seeks knowledge and skills appropriate to college health care and integrates new information and methodologies
Preferred Qualifications- Public Health experience responding to the COVID-19 pandemic
- Experience in an institution of higher education or similar environment

- Strong leadership abilities to coordinate efforts across campus.
- Up to date on current epidemiological issues such as COVID-19.
- Understanding of risk management on a college campus.

- Data-driven and technologically inclined, to aid in data management of public health response on campus.
- Flexible and willing to respond quickly due to the potential for an emergency response to a public health outbreak.
