Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with managing and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Open Recreation program including reservation requests, event set-ups, lost and found system, equipment checkout, inventory and maintenance of related equipment in the University Recreation Center and Belk Gymnasium
- Directly oversee and manage approximately 75 Patron Service Assistants; including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating
- Assisting with the hiring, training, and supervision of 15-20 Welcome Desk Lead and 15-20 Building Managers
- Hours are 11am – 8pm, Monday – Friday, weekend hours may apply and schedule is subject to change according to facility/programming needs.
- Responsible for the development of a customer service training program for open recreation student staff and assist with other customer service needs for the department
- Assists with creating, revising, implementing and enforcing student staff expectations, policies, and procedures
- Provide student development through leadership, customer service, diversity, multiculturalism, student learning theory and specific job duty training that accommodates various learning styles for student staff
- Provide managerial and leadership experiences in facility management to student employees through group or individual mentoring/coaching on a daily basis
- Help create an environment that encourages, inspires and supports innovation and professional development opportunities for student staff, including professional association involvement and training programs
- Help create an innovative and inclusive monthly, and annual open recreation programming
- Provide quality patron experience for students through programs, facilities and offerings
- Oversee a tiered employment model that allows student staff to take on progressively responsible positions as peer mentors/leaders
- Assist with development & implementation of projects including but not limited to staff trainings, special events, developing policy, procedure and risk management manuals
- Assist with equipment purchase, inventory, maintenance, and inspections
- Assist with student development projects or duties as assigned
- Collaborate with program areas to cross-train on facilities related duties and services as needed
Minimum Experience / Education:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Recreation, Sports
Administration/Management, Physical Education, or related field. - Knowledge and experience in budget planning and fiscal management.
- Experience in personnel administration and staff training.
- An understanding of student development theory and demonstrated success in
implementing recreation programs to a culturally diverse population. - Certified Instructor for First Aid, CPR, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and
