Position SummaryStudent-Athlete Academic Support Services provides a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from pre-admission guidance to initial eligibility coordination, advising, and academic support through to graduation. The purpose of the program's services and activities is to assist and support student-athletes in achieving high academic success and personal integrity while progressing toward a degree objective.
Under the general direction of the Executive Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, the primary responsibilities of the Student-Athlete Services Specialist include admissions and initial eligibility pre-evaluations of prospective student-athletes and tracking admissions of said students. The incumbent will be the liaison between Enrollment Services and head coaches regarding the admission status of their incoming student-athletes. This person will serve as the primary contact with the NCAA Eligibility Center, providing regular reports on the initial eligibility status of prospective student-athletes to head coaches. The Student-Athlete Services Specialist will also serve as a point of contact with SDSU's Certification Officer on campus. Another primary function of this position is to serve as the liaison with the Office of Housing Administration and coordinate prospective and continuing student-athlete housing needs with coaches.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023, with the possibility for reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and ExperienceEquivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper-division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with major responsibility for a professional career or personal counseling.
Preferred Qualifications -
Three or more years in NCAA Athletics compliance, certification, and/or academic support if the applicant does not have Master's or postgraduate degree.

Knowledge and understanding of CSU and SDSU admission requirements.

Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional work experience in admissions.

Ability to evaluate transcripts for admissions and initial eligibility purposes.

Knowledge of NCAA initial eligibility and continuing degree progress requirements.

Ability to work with various constituencies in a professional manner.
Specialized Skills -
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or similar database programs.

Total commitment to adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.

Attention to detail is of utmost importance.

Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

Compensation and BenefitsSalary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,691- $6,683 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine PolicyIn accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine.
Afterward, a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated. The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
