Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Pre-Health Coordinator in the Student Success Center promotes student success across the student life cycle. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Academic Advising, the Pre-Health Coordinator serves as the primary leader for pre-health coaching, engagement and student development efforts throughout the Student Success Center. Pre-Health advising offers support, resources, programs, and referrals to prepare pre-health undergraduates for admission into and success with graduate preparations programs for health careers. Pre-health engagement will include campus, state, and regional programming efforts to bring information and awareness about a variety of health programs as well as outreach to partner and potential partner programs. Additionally, student development efforts include management of student learning opportunities like presentations from subject matter experts and professional panels, podcasts, and digital resources pages.

This role may also supervise student employees. Through collaboration with the professional advising staff and the SSC leadership team, the Pre-Health Coordinator ensures that students receive a high-quality experience that leads to students successfully achieving their pre-health academic and career goals. Moreover, the Coordinator collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Student Success and the Assistant Director for Academic Advising to ensure that the comprehensive pre-health programming and services throughout the Center are well executed and in alignment with the CHHS and SSC strategic plans.

Applicants must posses the following:

• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills as well as, demonstrated professionalism in effective judgment and professional integrity
• Experience with and a passion for working with students from diverse background
• Proven abilities to prioritize and handle multiple deadlines and projects in the midst of changing priorities
• Experience in creating, implementing and leading programming
• Be knowledgeable of best practices around student engagement, programming and student services for student pursuing health and human services positions, as well as, all relevant federal, state, and local laws, university regulations, and programs/policies required for compliance.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to applicants who have the following:

• Demonstrated experience of effectively working in a complex organization
• Experience with planning and coordinating pre- health student support services and programs
• Ability to work positively and effectively as a contributing member of a team
• A proven track record of communicating and creating programs for a diverse student population
• Demonstrated experience supervising a team of students (graduate/undergraduate) or temporary employees in a collegiate environment
• Evidence of exceptional organizational and time management

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Student Success Center (SSC) works to develop and provide programs and services for students, staff, and faculty that foster excellence in the student experience and position students for success as they continue in their chosen career paths. The SSC houses caring individuals who are passionate about and dedicated to helping students identify and achieve their educational and career goals.

The Student Success Center works collaboratively with other units across campus (e.g., the Career Center, University College, etc.) to:

1. Provide academic advising
2. Support program recruitment and admissions
3. Provide major, career, and graduate school guidance
4. Perform student assessment, monitoring, and reporting
5. Provide pre-health coaching for declared majors across campus
6. Develop other services and programs that will foster student and alumni success.

The Student Success Center acts as an “accelerator network” and supports campus wide and college services and programs, and thus Student Success Professionals must possess the skillsets, ability and flexibility to be successful in a changing, fast-paced academic environment.

College/School Information
The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work. The College seeks to be nationally recognized for its inter-professional and collaborative approach to enhancing the health and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities in southeastern North Carolina and beyond.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s Degree in higher education, student personnel, student development, educational administration, counseling or related field and 3 years of related work OR a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in the areas of student programming, academic advising, and academic coaching
