About the Position: College and Program Development generates financial support for Cal State Fullerton, benefiting each of the eight colleges, Student Affairs, Titan Athletics, Fullerton Arboretum and the Pollak Library. We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our team as the Director of Development, College of Communications. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Director of Development for the College of Communications works under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, Principal Gifts, College of Communications, and Student Affairs to manage fundraising activities consistent with the priorities of the Vice President for University Advancement, as well as the Dean of the College. This position is responsible for cultivating and securing individual, foundation and corporate philanthropic support of $25,000 or more as well as general fundraising management for Cal State Fullerton's College of Communications. The Director of Development will arrange appropriate opportunities for key research faculty and academic leaders to meet with potential donors, and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The Director of Development will also work with the College to fundraise in support of the Latino Communications Institute. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college of university in a related field. Minimum of three years fundraising experience and securing individual and corporate gifts of $25,000 or more. Ability to work effectively independently and in coordination with the Executive Director and others to research, identify, develop, and execute successful giving of $25,000 and above including proposals and solicitation strategies.
Ability to design stewardship strategies for donors. Ability to work with teams of faculty, staff, students and community volunteers. Experience in managing and executing fundraising events. Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Possession of superior written, project management, and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand the higher education environment. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies. Ability to travel as appropriate. Proficiency in the use of general office equipment, and Windows-based personal computers, proficiency in using administrative computing systems, Microsoft office applications and other relevant software applications.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in major gift fundraising with individuals, foundations and corporations.
Experience with volunteer groups and campaigns.
