The Student Health and Wellness Center is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner to work 5 days a week (37.5 hours per week). This position reports directly to the Nurse Practitioner Manager. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with other nurse practitioners and physicians.
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing a full range of outpatient medical care to students. This includes high quality and effective patient care through the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury. In addition to providing direct patient care with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventative measures, the nurse practitioner shares responsibility for the provision of high quality health care in compliance with state, federal, and ambulatory accreditation requirements.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient healthcare, with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventive measures.
- Assess patients using skills in interviewing, history taking and physical diagnosis, and initial screening and diagnostic tests.
- Apply evidence-based decision-making when assessing and treating patients.
- Provide continuity of care and coordination of available healthcare services using appropriate referral to agencies and specialists as indicated.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for organizing time and workload to meet patient, staff and departmental needs.
- Perform monthly peer chart reviews and pass periodic laboratory proficiency testing and quality control reviews.
- Systematically record information in an electronic medical record in accordance with state and federal medical/legal requirements.
- Philosophical commitment to the care, development and education of students.
- Proven ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of people of various ages and backgrounds including an understanding and appreciation of gender, culture, ethnicity, and international origins.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of quality care and AAAHC accreditation standards.
- Share responsibility for ongoing assessment of quality and efficiency of patient care services.
- Attend SHWC educational programs and show evidence of continued self-development and professional involvement by participating in activities and educational programs of professional organizations.
- Some evening hours until 6:30 pm and occasional Saturday clinic (9:30-1:30) approximately once/month; subject to change as clinic needs change, not to exceed 37.5 hours/week.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Nurse Practitioner Manager or Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Additional experience may substitute for master's degree, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Active or eligible for DEA, and Maryland Controlled Drug Substances registrations. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH and SHWB credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Unrestricted license or eligible for unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
- Proven ability to relate effectively to people of various ages and backgrounds including gender and sexual orientation as well as cultural, ethnic, and international differences.
- Experience working with under-represented and historically marginalized communities in removing barriers for access to care.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated competence in young adult health, public health, or college health. Two to four years' experience working in a college health setting highly desirable. Philosophical commitment to the care, development, and education of students and trainees.
- Experience and capability to use electronic medical record.
- Physical Requirements of the Job: Stooping and bending; Reaching and grasping objects; Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Additional Information:
- During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception.
