ISU Dining is a self-operated, fully self-funded department at Iowa State University providing high-quality food and services to the university community. Reporting through the Division of Student Affairs, ISU Dining is committed to understanding student expectations and our impact on the student experience. ISU Dining operates 4 residential dining facilities, 18 retail venues, campus-wide vending, 2 food trucks, catering services, a culinary support center, a bakery, and a food stores warehouse and distribution center.Â In addition, to support these operations we maintain several administrative units including support services, engagement, business services and financial operations, dining information systems, and a culinary team.

Summary Serves as a culinary leader and decision-maker. Supervises food production, trains and develops staff, develops menus and recipes, procures food, and controls inventory.
Example of Duties â¢ Oversees, directs, and trains staff in the simple to complex daily food preparation and production activities including food safety. â¢ Trains and develops staff on standard operating procedures, customer service, food safety, production, and other core skills. â¢ Coordinates with manager to review and determine staffing needs, schedules, selection of candidates, overtime needs. â¢ Provides feedback to management for performance evaluations and recommends discipline, promotions, or other personnel actions. â¢ Demonstrates a master level of food knowledge and production and participates in providing quality food and excellent service through innovative and creative menus and food selections. â¢ Directs and participates hands-on in the daily work of the production staff. â¢ Collaborates with management to research, develop, and implement all menu items and corresponding recipes and production structure. â¢ Evaluates all food and non-food products and recommend final selection of items. â¢ Taste-tests all recipes to ensure the proper flavor profile is attained. â¢ Ensures that all production menu items have corresponding recipes that are accurate. â¢ Assists in marketing programs and menu development with unit peers and supervisors. â¢ Coordinates the food, materials, and equipment for operations production needs, including but not limited to, overseeing the ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, production, service, and transportation of all daily food items.

Hours: Based on operational hours. Nights and weekends during training and business needs maybe required.
