Charles Wright Academy (CWA), located on a beautiful, wooded 107-acre campus, serves students in preschool through 12th grade. The classroom teacher will provide a developmentally appropriate program and environment for the intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of lower school students.
In alignment with the school’s standards based curriculum mapping, implements the Lower School curriculum appropriate to the grade and developmental level of the students.
Provides a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials, which support student differences within the classroom.
Fosters the growth of moral character according to the mission and values of the school.
Imparts enthusiasm for learning to students
In coordination with the Learning Specialist, acknowledges and plans for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom.
Provides and maintains a stimulating, safe environment.
Practices thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active, joyful learning and promote responsibility and pathways to self-regulation.
Conducts ongoing assessments, both formative and summative, of students’ development and growth and maintains records of such.
Partners with families to keep them abreast of students’ progress and any challenges or issues that arise.
Communicates in a professional and timely manner with families, colleagues, and administration as appropriate.
Supervises and supports positive student behavior for all Lower School students throughout the school day using Responsive Classroom and No Bully programs as a framework for working with students.
Collaborates with grade level teaching colleagues, administration, and specialists to develop a dynamic, engaging, and effective learning experience for students.
Attends and actively engages in all scheduled faculty and community meetings.
Participates fully in the life of the school including supervisory duties, school admission events, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Lower School Director and/or the Head of School.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$70,000 dependent upon background and breadth of experience. Bachelor's degree in elementary education
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated knowledge of academic subjects, sense of humor, and sensitivity to intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of children.
Responsiveness to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of children.

Master's degree in education
Familiarity with educational technology and ability to lead the program in a virtual environment as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
Full-time, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily, plus weekly meetings to 5 p.m.
School year is late August to mid-June
Expected to work in-service and professional development days as well as those directed by the Head of School.
All Charles Wright employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the first day of work in accordance with the State’s mandate. Additionally, the school requires all student-facing employees to be fully boosted. Proof of MMR vaccination or a titer test is also required.
